A new exhibit at the San Rafael Museum in Castle Dale Utah was opened in February.
This exhibit is about the people who first inhabited Utah, over 12,000 years ago to Utah’s more recent history.
Maegan Wilberg the director of the Museum of the San Rafael was on hand to greet and welcome the excited people coming to see this new exhibit. Maegan said they have been planning this First Peoples of Utah exhibit for quite a while.
The museum now has on exhibit artifacts and information about each of the tribes that came to Utah. From the first people that came to Utah down to the more recent inhabitants.
Some of those tribes represented are the Pueblo, the Paleo, the Archaic, the Fremont, the Ancestral Pueblo, Piute, Shoshone, Ute, Goshute and Navajo. There are nine tribes represented in this exhibit. In the exhibit they have artifacts and descriptions that represents each of the tribes.
The description describes who they are and where they are today. Included is a representation of the type of rock art each tribe produced. This is expected to be a permanent exhibit in the museum center gallery.
Megan is assisted in her work at the museum by Museum Specialist Tiffani Baker. Tiffani went to USU Eastern where she received her Bachelor’s degree in history.
