George Pappas

PRICE – Our loving brother, uncle and friend George Pappas, 84, went to heaven on Sept. 20, 2018, with his sister and niece by his side, after an emergency neuro-surgery at Utah Valley Hospital.
George was born to Louis and Emeliana “Mollie” Pappas on Jan. 22, 1934. He grew up a coal miner’s son, born and raised in the coal camp “Greek Town” Hiawatha.  He graduated Carbon High in 1952.  He was a lifelong resident of Price, Utah, retiring from Price City in 1998.
George was very polite, quiet and humble- a man of simplicity, not owning many possessions, but rich in values, morals, love and friendship. George was like a magnet and everyone wanted to be around him.  His wit and humor was unmatched, and his one liner’s kept everyone in stitches.  “My nose isn’t big, my face is just little!”  When playing Greek Rummy, “This isn’t a hand, this is a foot!”
He ate lunch daily at senior citizens and enjoyed pitching horse shoes for hours perfecting his skill. He amazingly threw 9/10 ringers on any given day. He always loved and attended all family weddings, hunting trips, fishing trips and his sibling’s baseball games. His favorite spot was Ferron Mountain.
He proudly attended the yearly Hiawatha Days reunion and enjoyed seeing his childhood friends. He never missed his local families’ birthday parties, holiday dinners and gatherings.
He was known for his shiny vehicles, extra shiny boots, freshly pressed jeans and shirts.  He enjoyed going to the Out Law cafe for coffee.  Since George preferred to be busy and work, he made this an opportunity to bus tables and roll silverware for years!
George never married, but was never alone.  He was constantly surrounded by siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and a community of friends.  A local young family came into George’s life and “adopted “him becoming his family too. So much so, that George moved with them to Pleasant Grove for eight months. We are forever thankful to Kristi Loveland Butler, Weston, Corgan, Preston, Willow, Justice (Davi) Blanc for their unconditional love and care of George.  He moved back to Price this July entrusted to the care of Pinnacle to current.
George was well respected in our community and he touched the lives of everyone he met. George was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
George is survived by siblings- Helen Pappas Segura, Johnny (Jill) Pappas, and Antoinette “Toni” (Steve) Young. Special nieces- Lisa Segura (Bobby) Peirce & Bobbie (Buck) Brady and children. Special nephew- Nicholas Pappas.  Also, the Butler & Blanc family, Nina Pappas, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death-Parents, Siblings- Anthony Pappas, Tony Pappas, Ferron Pappas, Mello Pappas Pazell. Brother- in –laws Frank Segura & Steve Pazell.  Sister- in- law Ann Pappas.
We will so miss his quirky one liners, and his mischievous smile. We love you Gorgie Porgie. “I’m at the fish hook… End of the line”.
