Programs for High School Students
The Interamerican University studies Institute will offer two programs to Costa Rica and Pura Vida this summer. The programs are open to students between the ages of 15-17 who will have completed two years of high school Spanish by June. Scholarships are also available. Applications are due by Feb. 9, 2007. Turkey Trot
Huntington City Annual Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. at the old town hall parking lot. There will be a 5K run and a kids run. Come join in and bring the whole family. Registration is $1.
Santa
Huntington City will have Santa at the Huntington Elementary on Dec. 19. Pre-schoolers can come and see Santa from 11:30-12:30 p.m.
Huntington City Christmas Celebration
A Fireman Fiesta on Dec. 1 at the Huntington Senior Center. Dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. Bring the whole family for dinner and games.

Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting
The ribbon cutting ceremony to open Tyler Jeffs’ Farm Bureau Office, the Community Nursing Services office, and the office of Heugley and Olsen, Attorneys at Law will be held Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the open house from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The building is located west of Boyd’s Pharmacy building in Castle Dale.
Scouting Leader Recognition Banquet
The theme for the adult scouting leaders recognition banquet is Hunting for Treasures. There will be a lot of outdoor gear door prizes. It will be held Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center. This is for all adults involved in the scouting program. Contact a member of your bishopric to RSVP. Baseball Camp
The Rocky Mountain School of Baseball announces its first annual Turkey Ball camp on Nov. 24-25 in Mesquite, Nev. The camp is for individuals or teams from ages 7-18, who will be divided into age groups. The collegiate and professional staff will include players, coaches, and scouts. 4-H Holiday

Winter Cheer Camp
Emery Spartans Winter Cheer Camp for ages 4-15 will be held on Nov. 20-21 at Orangeville Elementary from 3:30-5 p.m. They will perform on Nov. 22 at the JV basketball game at the Spartan Center. The cost is $25 per child. You can register with an Emery High Cheerleader or at the door. No black sole shoes and jewelry and wear your hair up.
Nightmare Canyon
Justin Harris was lost and injured in Baptist Draw in Emery County. The Search and Rescue was called out to rescue him. His story will be told on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24. The program entitled “I Shouldn’t Be Alive: Nightmare Canyon” will air on the Discovery Channel.
Staying Sharp and Fraud Forums
AARP Utah will present a Staying Sharp Forum at the College of Eastern Utah in Price on Nov. 18 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Scientists from the University of Utah’s Brain Institute will provide practical advice on keeping the brain sharp, on dementia and depression. An afternoon seminar on identity theft and fraud will be presented by Utah’s Attorney General’s Office and Division of Securities. Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is accepting home applications. Appicants must complete 20 hours of work for the group, have been turned down for a conventinonal home loan and have a stable income. Volunteers and board members are needed. Christmas Extravaganza
The annual Christmas Extravaganza will be held Dec. 2 at the Emery County Recreational Center in Castle Dale. We are looking for people to provide entertainment that day from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Performances could be any type of musical number, dramatic readings, poetry, stories, dance, drill or any numbers that add to our Holiday event.

Gingerbread House Festival
The Gingerbread House Festival, a new event in Emery County, will be held Dec. 1-2 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Admission is free. Entries are due by Nov. 30 for the competition, and Dec. 1-2 for viewing only. Everyone who wants to participate should build a gingerbread house and bring it to the festival. If house aren’t your style, try a sleigh or a gingerbread man or woman. These can be done by a group, family or individual. Each creation must be 80 percent edible. A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Tip Line for Drug Violations
A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.
Drug Awareness Night
A drug awareness night will be held at Castle Dale Elementary on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
