Janet Smith Evans LeFevre
1926 – 2006
Janet Smith Evans LeFevre, 79, passed away peacefully on Sun., April 9, 2006 following an unexpected massive stroke at the Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City. Before her death, she and family members were planning her 80th birthday party which was scheduled later in April. The celebration just came earlier than anticipated.
She was born on April 30, 1926 to Barton H. and Virginia Hardy Smith in Moroni, Utah. She later moved with her parents to Henrieville and enjoyed growing up in beautiful red rock surroundings with her numerous siblings and cousins. She attended area schools and then went to work during World War II at the Ogden Defense Depot. She married Guy Hyrum Evans from Hatch on Oct. 19, 1947 in Fredonia, Ariz. (marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple). They made their home in Pleasant Grove where they raised three daughters. They later moved to Henrieville where Janet and Guy bought the Pahreah Grocery store from Janet’s parents and Janet took over postmaster duties from her mother. Guy died on July 8, 1970. She later sold the store but remained as the Henrieville Postmaster for the next 23 years. She was instrumental in building the present day post office which is one of the most unique small post offices in the United States. She also was elected to serve on the Henrieville Town Board. She married Ira “Ike” LeFevre of Panguitch, later divorced but both remained good friends. Knowing the value of a good education, she set a great example for her children and grandchildren by going back to high school and graduated from Bryce Valley High School in 1983.
After she retired in 1990, she moved to Ferron to be close to two married daughters and their families. While in Ferron, she made many friends and volunteered at the Emery County Nursing Home. She lived in Ferron for 8 and � years and then moved to Cedar City to be with more friends and relatives. She was active in the Heritage Park LDS Ward and assisted at the Cedar City Senior Citizens Center. Janet loved people and went back to work after 15 years of retirement and was a highly regarded hostess at Wendy’s in Cedar City where she was employed at the time of her death.
She is survived by her daughters, Pauline (Len) Anderson, Ferron; Joyce (Clint) Warby, West Jordan; and Genice (Tumau) Laulu, West Jordan. She has 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with five grandsons serving LDS missions, four of which are Eagle Scouts, and two of her grandsons returning safely from recent active duty in Iraq. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Hayden, Tropic; Ada (George) Thompson, Las Vegas; Connie Kleese, Cedar City; Carolyn (Lynn) Davies, Washington, Utah; Marilyn (Jim) Rowan, St. George; Inez (Ivan) Winberg, Kearns; brother, Dar (Helen) Smith, St. George; and sister-in-law Clora Hardy, Las Vegas. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Guy; brothers Hardy and Freeman Smith.
A viewing was held on Thurs., April 13 at the Southern Utah Mortuary at 190 South 300 West in Cedar City from 6-8 p.m. An additional viewing was held at the LDS Chapel in Henrieville on Fri., April 14 from 11:30 a.m. until time of services which began at 1 p.m. Burial was in the Henrieville Cemetery.
Janet was a widow for more than 26 years. Through the years she was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor to many. She enjoyed sports especially the Utah Jazz, BYU Cougars and the Philadelphia Eagles. Her delightful humor, warmth, love and especially her cooking will be sorely missed. Her family knows of her strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that she is once again with her beloved Guy and is happy.
Naone Huntsman Fletcher
LAYTON – Naone Huntsman Fletcher, age 90, passed away April 13, 2006 at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield.
Born on July 23, 1915, Ferron, Utah, daughter of George Albert and Deborah Louisa Cox Huntsman. Married Paul J. Fletcher Aug. 10, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away on June 9, 1986.
As a member of the LDS Church, Naone played piano and organ for meetings for many years. She taught various classes, was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and was a visiting teacher more than 25 years.
She worked at Hill Air Force Base until her retirement and then worked at Virg’s Trophy Shop in Layton while in her 70s and 80s. She was active in the Layton Senior Citizens’ organization until it closed down then volunteered at the Kaysville Senior Citizens Center for many years. She loved music, stamp collecting, crocheting, making quilts and genealogy.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie May Conover, Layton; three sons: David Paul Fletcher, Layton; Michael (Bobbette) Fletcher, Alpine; and Robert (Kathi) Fletcher of Newman Lake, Wash. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Nila Mumm of Richland, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
Funeral Services will be held Thurs., April 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.

Grace Albert
EAST CARBON/PRICE – Our loving mother, grandmother, and longtime resident at the Heirloom Inn, Grace Robertson Albert passed away April 18, 2006 in Price at the age of 89.
She was born April 13, 1916 in Clear Creek to Jack and Caroline Nielson Robertson. Married Edwin Albert April 29, 1935 in Price; he died March 4, 1984.
Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Grace was a longtime resident of Carbon County, who always enjoyed traveling with her family during miners vacation.
She loved cooking and caring for her grandchildren.
Survived by four sons and two daughters, Vance (Leslie) Albert, Mesquite, Nev.; Shirley Day, Salt Lake City; Charles (Ginger) Albert, Spanish Fork; James (Helen) Albert, Kearns; Eda Dean (Bob) Johnson, Eagan, Minn.; Alan Albert, Clifton, Colo.; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by parents; son, Carl L. Albert; daughter, Dorothy Sumner; one brother; and five sisters.
Graveside service was held Fri., April 14, 11 a.m., Price City Cemetery. Family greeted friends on Friday from 10- 10:45 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.
Sam Tallerico Jr.
PRICE-Sam Tallerico Jr., age 88, passed away April 13, 2006 at Castle Country Care Center in Price. Sam was born March 12, 1918 in Sunnyside, Utah to Sam Tallerico Sr. and Maria Antonia Lamanna, he was the fourth of 12 children. He married Katarina Mangone, Jan. 27, 1946 in McCloud, Calif.
He was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. He as an honorary life member of Price Elk’s Lodge #1550 where he served as Tiler. Sam honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II and was a member of V.F.W. Miner’s Post #2379.
He was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and a dedicated employee of the Carbon County Railway prior to his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, drinking coffee and playing cards, Sam’s life was his family and he cherished every memory that he shared with family, friends and especially those with his grandchildren.
Survived by his wife of 60 years, Kaye Tallerico; daughter, Teresina (George) Snyder, Toni Fugate, all of Price; son, Sam Tallerico III, Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Shelly (Jimmy) Stricker, Herriman, Utah; Tawnie (Mike) Crowe, Price; Tina (Simon Ortiz) Tallerico, Tricia (Sonny) Martinez, both of Salt Lake City; Sammie Fugate, Price; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Mikey Crowe, both Price; Ashton Stricker, Herriman, Utah; and Kayden Martinez, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Jody Kaye Snyder, and son-in-law, Vance T. Fugate.
Funeral mass, Tues. April 18, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the church. Friends were welcomed at Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Committal service, Price City Cemetery. Sally Arriola
WELLINGTON-Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Sally Arriola, age 82, passed away April 14, 2006 while surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 18, 1924 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Regino M. and Nicholasa Martinez Sanchez. She married Joseph J. Arriola on Aug. 8, 1941 in Gallup, N. M.; he died Sept. 2, 1996.
Sally was a devoted member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church and a member of the Benedictine O.S.B. oblates for eight years. Mom walked in the shadows never in the forefront. She was the rock and soul of her family and she had the patience of a saint. In the last few years her health was failing, yet she still made time for her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by five sons and four daughters; John R. (Tam) Arriola, West Valley City; Barbara Adams, Salt Lake City; Sally (Scott) Dixon, West Valley City; Mike (Debbie) Arriola, Taylorsville; Dorothy Uitvlugt, Kearns; Joe (Penny) Arriola, Wellington; Philip (Marilou) Arriola, Monroe, Utah; Yolanda (Sim) Bunderson, Wellington; Chris (Dee Ann) Arriola, Salt Lake City; sister, Teresa Montoya, brother, Howard (Nori) Sanchez, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; 28 grandchildren, 25 1/2 great-grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; brothers, Regino and Mike Sanchez; grandchildren, Tony and Gary Arriola; and one great-grandchild.
Sally’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Castleview and LDS hospitals, and to everyone at Rocky Mountain Hospice of Price.
Funeral mass will be held Wed. April 19, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service will be Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the church in Price. George William Carney
George William Carney, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away April 7, 2006 in a care center in Price, Utah at the age of 92. George was born in Cape Fair, Mo. on Jan. 28, 1914 to James Monroe Carney and Mellie Celestia Garrison. He grew up as a barefoot boy in the Ozarks, and attended a country school.
When he was 19 years old, George decided to move to California. A brief stop in Idaho to work and replenish his funds turned into a lifelong stay. During World War II, George worked as a civilian contractor hauling supplies for the military on the island of Oahu. Returning to Idaho, he worked many years in the dairy business for Meadow Gold, Young’s, and Triangle Dairies.
The love of George’s life was Violet Marker. They were married on Sept. 6, 1941. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 28, 1955. Life for George and Violet centered around their family, making a good home for their two daughters Mellie Faye and Marilyn, and later a happy haven for their grandchildren.
George enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, especially tending his roses, genealogy, and being anywhere his family was. He loved his neighbors on Summerwind Drive and friends from the Meridian 13th Ward. He thoroughly enjoyed his years as a temple worker in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple.
George is survived by his daughters, Mellie Faye (Joseph) Patterson of Wellington, Utah; Marilyn (Gary) Montgomery of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren Heidi (Scott) Pankow, Wendi Patterson, Justin (Cynthia) Patterson, Jeffrey (Melinda) Patterson, Jared (Kim) Patterson, Joshua (Megan) Patterson, Brad Montgomery, Greg (Kristin) Montgomery, Scott Montgomery, Matthew (Camee) Montgomery; and 13 great-grandchildren. His beloved wife, Violet, and a grandson, Joseph Roy Patterson, preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held for George on Fri. April 14, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Meridian Idaho Stake Center, 3775 East Ustick Road, Meridian, Idaho, with Bishop Eric Garner officiating. Friends greeted the family in the Relief Society room beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment was at the Cloverdale Cemetery.
Lawrence “Larry” Wheeler
PRICE- Lawrence “Larry” Wheeler, passed away April 15, 2006 at the age of 86.
Larry was born on April 27, 1919 to Russell and Elizabeth Wheeler in Sioux Falls, S.D. Married Jean Ann Semling, later divorced.
During World War II Larry served in the Air Force and many years in the Air Force Reserves. He enjoyed telling stories of his travel and experience serving in the military and rarely missed his daily jog and afternoon beer.
Larry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Larry and Denise Wheeler, Henderson Nev., brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Claire Ann Wheeler, Seneca, S.D. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Ed Wheeler.

Funeral mass will be conducted on Fri. April 21 at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church with a vigil service preceding that morning at 9:30 a.m. at Mitchell’s funeral home. Interment will be in Seneca, S.D.
