Last weekend, the Green River Pirate basketball teams traveled south to face region foes Navajo Mountain and Monument Valley and came away with blowout victories. On Friday at Navajo Mountain, the Pirates won 92-29 while the Lady Pirates won 85-55. On Saturday, the boys won 60-41 while the girls won 58-36.
With the exception of the third quarter against Monument Valley, the boys dominated every quarter on the road trip. In the Friday night blowout, Green River won the first quarter 29-8, the second quarter 15-7, the third quarter 28-4 and the final period 20-10. On Saturday, the first quarter score was 13-6; the second quarter score was 21-14, the third quarter was 2-12 and the final period was 24-9.
Leading the scoring each night was Brent Johnson, knocking down 27 points the first night and 25 points the following night. Kaden Robertson was the second leading scorer each night with 16 and 14 points respectively.
Also scoring on Friday were Weston Vetere with 14 points, Kaleb Fail with 12 points, Brennan Bigelow with 10 points, Jace Vetere with 8 points, Earl Nelson and Tyson Johnson with 2 points each and Adrian Lucero with a single point.
Also scoring on Saturday were Weston with 11 points, Kaleb with 6 points and Jace with 4 points.

The Lady Pirates also won every quarter but one, they tied the third quarter on Friday night at 21 apiece. The other three Friday night quarters went in the Lady Pirate favor by scores of 27-8, 23-15 and 14-11. The next night at Monument Valley, they won each quarter by the scores of 14-7, 15-6, 17-16 and 12-7.
Heidi Vetere led the scoring each night. On Friday she scored 29 points and on Saturday she scored 18 points. Adrianna Cordova was next each night scoring 18 and 17 points in the two games.
Also scoring against Navajo Mountain were Ciji Vetere with 14 points, Whitney Bigelow with 7 points, Charle Vetere with 6 points, Brandi Webster with 5 points and Lindsay Spadafora, Leah Swalberg and Bailie Packer with 2 points each.
Against Monument Valley scoring for Green River were Ciji and Brandi with 8 points, Charle with 4 points, Rachel with 2 points and Whitney with a single point.
The Green River teams now face Whitehorse on the road this Friday night while the boys face off against the 12-1 Grand Devils tonight in Green River.
