Emergency Kits
Huntington Elementary is putting together emergency kits for each classroom and are in need of many items. In the event of an emergency these items could be essential for saving the lives of your children. Please contact Huntington Elementary at 687-9954 for a list of needed items.
Food Handler’s Classes
Food handler’s classes will be held in Price on Jan. 24, Feb. 27, and March 27, 2007 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Health Department office at 28 South 100 East, Price. Classes will also be held on Feb. 15, 2007 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Castle Dale office, 25 West Main, Castle Dale. For more information call 6373671 or 381-2252.
Emery Town Dog Licenses
2007 dog licenses are available at the Emery Town office. The cost is $5 for altered dogs and $15 for unaltered dogs. Five dogs or more require a $50 kennel license. Proof of altered status (if applicable) and current rabies vaccination are required for every dog at the time of licensing. All dogs must be licensed by March 1, 2007 to avoid the late fee.
Teacher Achievement Award
Nominate your favorite teacher for an Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Award. The Arch Coal Foundation will present five awards in four counties of Utah-Carbon, Emery, Sanpete and Sevier; this school year and each carries a $2,500 personal cash award. Fund Pools Reopened
The Natural Resources Conservation Service, has announced that three fund pools under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program have been reopened for new applications until Jan. 8, 2007. For more information call Wayne Greenhalgh at 435-637-0041 ext. 19.
December Safety
The Southeastern Utah District Health Department tips for this season are; mistletoe and holly berries can be poisonous if swallowed, old tinsel may contain lead, lamp oils are colorful and attractive to children, but extremely hazardous, keep them out of reach. Also to remember winter brings the cold and flu season, and that means there may be more medicines in your home. Keep all medicines in a locked cupboard, out of reach. There is no such thing as a childproof container and always keep medicine in its original container.
Baseball Camp
The Rocky Mountain School of Baseball will hold its 14th Annual Winter Ball Camp on Jan. 13-15, 2007 in Mesquite, Nev. The camp is for individual players or teams from ages 7-18. The camp staff will feature Chris Shelton of the Detroit Tigers along with professional and college coaches and players. Shuttle Service for Veterans
Donations would be greatly appreciated to help in purchasing a new minivan to transport disabled veterans to the Salt Lake Medical Center. All donations are tax deductible under the DAV Tax ID 8761512361. Orangeville Dog Licenses
Orangeville dog licenses are due for 2007. The cost is $8 for spayed or neutered dogs and $25 for non-altered dogs. Please bring in current rabies information when licensing your dog. All dogs must be registered by March 1. Rabies clinics will be held Jan. 6 and Feb. 10 at the old fire station from 10 a.m.- 12 noon. Any questions call the city hall 748-2651.
Women’s Volleyball

New Years Eve Dance
A dance for anyone ages 14 and up will be held at the Huntington Stake Center on Dec. 30. There will be a floor show. at 9 p.m. and the dance will begin at 8 p.m.

Programs for High School Students
The Interamerican University studies Institute will offer two programs to Costa Rica and Pura Vida this summer. The programs are open to students between the ages of 15-17 who will have completed two years of high school Spanish by June. Scholarships are also available. Applications are due by Feb. 9, 2007. Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is accepting home applications. Appicants must complete 20 hours of work for the group, have been turned down for a conventinonal home loan and have a stable income. Volunteers and board members are needed. Prehistory Week Poster Contest
State History announces the 2007 Utah Prehistory Week Poster Contest. The 2007 TRUTH from Youth Anti-tabacco advertising contest is giving fourth and fifth graders the opportunity to become a big-time producer. A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Tip Line for Drug Violations
A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Support Group for Parents

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels
All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
