Attention Senior Citizens


Flu shots will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Ferron Senior Center on Oct. 11; Huntington Senior Center on Oct. 16; and Emery Senior Center on Oct. 18. Remember to bring your Medicare card.

Festive Friday


Getting ready for the holidays? Come to the annual Festive Friday presentations by Utah State University Extension. Get ready, get organized and have fun with us. The first program is Oct 13 at noon in the small conference room at the Old Courthouse Bldg in Castle Dale. Guest presenter is Joanne Roueche from Davis County Extension. Cost is $2 (or $5 if you want the entire book of handouts). There will be fast and fun treats as well as excellent information. Everyone is welcome. Food Handler’s Class


A food handler’s class will be held on Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the South Eastern Utah District Health Department, 25 West Main in Castle Dale. For more info call 381-2252.

Emery County Veterans


If you would like to participate in this year’s Veterans Day assembly at San Rafael Junior High School on Nov. 10, please call the school secretary at 384-2335 before Oct. 27. Your participation would help our students remember and pay tribute to all veterans.

Free Archaeology Class


A free one day course on Utah Archaeology will be held on Oct. 14 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Rio Grande Depot, 300 South Rio Grande Street, Salt Lake City. Space is limited, pre-register as early as possible with Ron Rood 801-533-3564.

American Legion Fundraiser Raffle


The American Legion Post 73 is sponsoring two raffles to raise funds to help needy military families. Tickets can be purchased at Jones Ace Hardware, Desertview Federal Credit Union, Maverik in Huntington and Castle Dale, BK’s Stop and Shop, Wards 4X4, Hart’s, and Magnusons. Be generous, the families need your support.

Domestic Violence Awareness


October is domestic violence awareness month and in conjunction with that the Emery County Domestice Violence Coalition will host their eighth annual October Awareness Program on Oct. 18 from noon-1 p.m. on the second floor of the old courthouse. It is free to the public and lunch will be served. Katie Ann Sutton, Utah’s Domestic Violence Council director, will be the guest speaker.

Huntington Clean Up


The city will pick up limbs and branches. Everything else, haul to one of the dumpsters. Dumpster locations are 395 West Center and 150 East 300 South. Contractors are not allowed to use these dumpsters. Do not put any limbs on the street after Oct. 15. any limbs put out after this date will not be picked up and a citation will be issued.

Huntington Burn Season


Open burn season in Huntington City will be Sept. 23-Oct. 22. Burn permits are required and may be picked up at city hall. All burning must be done from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Emery County Community Theatre


Tryouts for the Emery County Community Theatre production of Cinderella will be held Oct. 18-19 in the Emery High School chorus room from 7-9 p.m. each evening. Cinderella will be performed Feb. 8-10 and 12. Tryout packets are available at your local library. There are no children’s part this year, unfortunately.

Junior High Fall Choral Concert


The choirs of San Rafael and Canyon View junior highs will be combining forces for the annual Fall Choral Exchange Concert. It will be held Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at San Rafael Junior High.

Parent/Teacher Conference


The Canyon View Junior High School first term mid-term parent/teacher conference will be on Oct. 3, from 3-9 p.m. At that time parents and guardians are welcome to come to the school, pick up report cards, and visit with teachers. All teachers will be available at that time although Mrs. Weihing, Mr. D. Bird and Mr. Fehlberg will only be available until 6 p.m.

Republican Annual Fall Dinner


The Emery County Republican Annual Fall Dinner will be held Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Critter Country Fixin’s located 330 West SR 29 in Castle Dale. The public is welcome to attend. Speakers will be Kay McIff and local candidates running for County Offices and also speaking will be a representative for LaVar Christensen who is running for Second District Congress.

Emery County Quilt Guild


The Emery County Quilt Guild will be held on the first Tuesday of every month at the Huntington Senior Citizen Center. Everyone is welcomed.

Gingerbread House Festival


The Gingerbread House Festival, a new event in Emery County, will be held Dec. 1-2 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Admission is free. Everyone who wants to participate should build a gingerbread house and bring it to the festival. If house aren’t your style, try a sleigh or a gingerbread man or woman. These can be done by a group, family or individual. Each creation must be 80 percent edible, and the winners of the house division will be eligible to compete at the Utah County Gingerbread House competiton. Master Clubs


Kids, ages 6-12, you are welcome to Master Club at the First Baptist Church in Ferron. It will be held every Wednesday night, beginning Sept. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. At Master Club, you will enjoy games, songs, Bible lessons, crafts, and skills learning.

Spartan Flags


The Emery High Spartan Booster club is selling flags as a fund raiser and to show support of the student athletes. The flags may be hung up whenever there is a home game. Flags and poles range from $10-$25. Also, they are selling advertising space around the field. For more information contact Cindy Draper at 748-2235.

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on Oct. 26 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Museum Donations


The Museum of the San Rafael is seeking funds to design, build and install full-size, life like sculptures of three dinosaurs and a mammoth. The cost is $149,000. Donations can be made to Museum of the San Rafael, P.O. Box 1088, Castle Dale.

Amplified Cordless Phone For Hard of Hearing


For Utahns living with hearing loss and limited mobility, an amplified cordless phone is now available through Relay Utah, a division of the State of Utah Public Service Commission to help meet the needs of the hard of hearing who also experience mobility limitations with wheelchair, walker or oxygen use. The amplified cordless phones are available, at no charge, to hard of hearing individuals in Utah who currently participate in the Supplemental Security Income program, Medicaid and other Department of Human Service or Public Assistance programs. Individuals who do not participate in these programs can purchase the phone by contacting Clear Sounds at 800-965-9043 or www.clearsounds.com.

Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson (LVER) at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues.
