In the near future, Community Nursing Services Home Health and Hospice will play an even more active role in meeting the home health and hospice needs of Emery County. CNS is Utah’s oldest, freestanding, not-for-profit home health and hospice agency. They have been making house calls since 1928.
The new office is located at 45 West Main Street in Castle Dale next to Boyd’s Family Pharmacy. The building, which once served the community as a restaurant, has recently undergone extensive reconstruction under its new owner, Tyler Jeffs. Completion of the renovation is expected by the end of October. The building will then be the home of CNS and Tyler Jeffs’ Farm Bureau Insurance and Financial Services.
“Our new home here in Emery County is taking shape and we are looking forward to moving in soon,” said Linda Beal, RN, MSN, area manager of the agency. CNS is not new to Carbon and Emery counties and has been providing care here for more than six years. Now with the new office space in Castle Dale, the agency will be more visible and better able to respond in a timely manner. “Our CNS staff members are local people with a real interest in the health and well being of the communities we serve,” stated Beal. CNS is proud to have been a sponsor of the Emery County rodeo and the Emery County fair for the past two years.
Beal adds, “Most people are not aware of all the help they can receive at home through home health and hospice.” While care is available through all ages and stages of life, most of the clients are Medicare age. CNS is a fully certified care provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and a preferred provider for most of the insurance companies serving Utah. CNS also accepts private paying clients. CNS is also a partner with the United Way, increasing their opportunity to provide care for the uninsured and underinsured in our area.
CNS can provider skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy, social work, spiritual support, and certified nursing aide services while coordinating with your physician to meet your health care needs. Those who use home health services are generally those who have just had surgery, been diagnosed with a new illness or have deteriorating health due to a chronic condition. Home health will work to improve the immediate problems and teach the client and family how to manage these health issues to insure as much independence as possible for as long as possible.
Hospice is the other part of home care. Hospice focuses on the person in the final stages of life. Hospice focuses on the person and everyone and everything in their lives. An important part of hospice is controlling the symptoms that are making life more difficult. Another part of hospice is supporting the client and those around them as they go through this final stage of life. CNS follows up with loved ones even after the loved one has passed on. Skilled nursing, therapies, social work, and certified nurses aides are all part of the hospice team that also includes spiritual guidance volunteers. Although hospice isn’t a cure, hospice provides comfort and help through a hard time.
