The snow was softly falling the evening of Dec. 1 as the residents of Orangeville brought their kettles and crock pots of chili, soups, and crackers. The chili and soup were all entered in the cook off contest. The contestants were hoping to win a prize for the best tasting chili, soup or the hottest chili. The hottest chili could make your eyes water.
The Chili and Soup Cook Off contest started at 5 p.m. in the new Orangeville Fire Station. Between 5-7 p.m., for $1 a person, everyone was given the opportunity eat all they wanted. The chili and soups were used to feed the party goers. Most of those attending enjoyed the meal and some even tasted every chili and soup.
At 6 p.m. the Christmas tree lights were turned on over each of the park pavilions, and the Emery High School combined choir sang Christmas carols to those who came to see the lights and Santa Claus. The choir was delightful to hear.
Hot chocolate and glazed donuts were offered to those who ventured out to the city park this snowy evening. The warming fire in the fire pit at the park attracted many who found the warmth great.
At 6:30 p.m. Santa arrived in an Orangeville fire engine with sirens blaring and lights flashing. Soon there were lines of children waiting to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas.
People came from all over the area to enjoy these festivities. There were even some from as far away as Murray. They happened to be visiting relatives in Orangeville.
The Chili/ Soup Cook Off judges were Jeff Tuttle, Shaun Jeffs and Brandon Hoffman.

The best tasting chili winners were Kevin Reynolds-first place, Loraine Cox-second place, and Jennifer Jewkes-third place.
Best tasting soup winners were first place-Misty Fausett, and second place-Kathy Addley.
The hottest tasting chili was made by Jeff Nielsen.
