A feral cat problem in Emery was the first of the citizen concerns at the recent town council meeting. The discussion of this problem turned to the possibility of disease spread by the cats. Councilman Patrick Sundstrom agreed to look into the problem and try to trap the cats. He said county animal control will not come because it is a cat problem and they are considered feral cats.
Council person Corinne Dalton stated the planning and zoning commission has moved into an annexation issue. There is a peninsula and an island problem in the northwest corner of the town. According to state law, this type of situation cannot exist. One of the property owners is requesting annexation and the other is not. By state law, the property owner with the biggest piece of property will take precedence. “We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible,” said Dalton.
Dave Taylor has again purchased the wreaths to be placed on the veterans graves. The Youth City Council will be doing the project.
Mistie Christiansen announced the Youth City Council wishes to host a New Year’s party for the town. “It will be their way of thanking the town for the support they gave during the ball park light project,” said Christiansen. She also announced the final purchases are on the way for the community center.
Mayor Gary Petty gave his final comments as Mayor of Emery. “This being my last council meeting as mayor, I would like to express my thanks to the city council for the help and support they have given me for the past nine months. I hope when the new mayor takes over, things will run smoothly and the council and town residents will work together,” stated Petty.
