Doyle Bruce Norton
WELLINGTON-Bruce D. Norton, age 80, passed away suddenly at his home on Dec. 4, 2007, with his loving wife of 61 years at his side.
Bruce was born March 5, 1927 in Sunnyside, Utah to Lafe and Vida Norton. He was the ninth of 10 children. He was a lifetime resident of Wellington, spending summers of his early youth, in Clark’s Valley (Kiz) where his family homesteaded.
He married his sweetheart, Gwenda Timothy, on July 20, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were sweethearts for 63 years.
Bruce became a coal miner at 17 and mined coal for 39 years with all but a year at Horse Canyon Mine. He loved being a miner. Bruce was an active member of the UMWA and was a union safety representative for many years. Bruce would want to be remembered as a strong union man, and a staunch democrat.
Horses, cattle, and cowboying were his true passions. He was one of the original members of the Wellington Mountaineers Horse Riding Club, and at 31 became the leader of the Wellington Rough Riders Junior riding club. During his leadership, the Junior Riding Club maintained the trophy for Outstanding Riding Club for five years. He loved working with kids and horses.
Bruce always ran a small farm besides being a coal miner until his retirement when he and his sweetheart became “Snow Birds” flying away for the winter months with other family members and friends. These were some very special years for them. He was the heart and soul of his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and they loved him. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and as a man who liked to have fun.
He is survived by his sweetheart, Gwenda; children, Norene K. Norton of Price, Utah; Ronda (Marty) Olson of Wellington, Utah; and Pamela (Matt) Rauhala, also of Wellington, Utah; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (Dale) Jensen; sister-in laws, Melene Norton, and Elaine Norton; brother-in-law Perry (Carol) Timothy; and sister in laws, Sally Timothy; Rhea Timothy; and Lavon Timothy.
He is preceded in death by his infant son, Rodney Bruce; granddaughter, Carlene Olson; his parents, Lafe and Vida Norton; sister, Vivian; brothers, Darrell, Melvin, Glen, Carl, and Ross; and also an infant brother and sister, Melva and Athel buried in Woodsville, Idaho.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 7, 2007 at 12 p.m. at the Wellington LDS Stake Center. Friends called for a viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and also at the stake center one hour preceding the services on Friday, with a grave dedication following at the Wellington City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Joy Lynn Humphrey
ORANGEVILLE-Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and longtime friend, Joy Lynn Humphrey, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 at age of 51 after fighting breast cancer and leukemia for the last three years.
She was born on Aug. 30, 1956 in Memphis, Tenn. to Joseph and Carolyn Shanks Dale. She married Jay Mark Humphrey on April 18, 1975 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Joy Lynn graduated from Brigham Young University. She was a Special Education teacher at Huntington Elementary. She devoted her life to serving others but especially focused her attention to helping children with disabilities. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and she loved holidays, especially Christmas. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She always had a book to give her grandkids when they would come to visit. She loved going camping, riding 4-wheelers, scrapbooking, cooking, and shopping.
Joy Lynn is survived by her husband, Jay Mark Humphrey; her four sons and one daughter: Jared Humphrey, Justin Humphrey, and Joe (Tamra) Humphrey all of Orangeville; Jeff (Jennifer) Humphrey of Farmington; Jessica (Ben) Lindley of Lehi; five grandchildren: Hagen, Hailey, Kylan, Reese, and Jaylynn; her parents: Joe and VeRee Dale; three brothers and three sisters: Bill (Nadene) Cox of Hyde Park; Marcie (Lonie) Zwahlen of Ferron; Reggie (Stacy) Dale of Rock Springs; Cheryl (Vic) Tsushima of North Ogden; Valarie (Kash) Winn of Ferron; Shayne (Heidi) Dale of Ferron; many nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored and was a mother to them all; wonderful neighbors that were like family; and all her wonderful close friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Carolyn Shanks Dale, and many grandparents that she was very close to.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 8 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Orangeville LDS Church House. A viewing was held at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the church prior to the services. Interment was in the Orangeville City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Bonnie Pittman
GREEN RIVER-Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Bonnie Lou Perryman Pittman, age 67, passed away Dec. 2, 2007.
She was born May 21, 1940 in Forsyth, Mo. to Floyd and Eunice Perryman.
Married Bruce Pittman, later divorced.
Bonnie was a resident of Green River since 1975 where she managed and worked at various restaurants. She loved her family and fishing. Bonnie was always willing to help those in need. She was a woman of great perseverance and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Survived by her children, Aaron Jacob (Amber) Pittman, Rebekah Sen-Jo (Billy) Aldrich, both of Green River; J.D. (Jamie) Pittman, Garberville, Calif.; Samuel Martin (Mindy) Pittman, Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Justina, Jacob, William, Nathan, Samantha, Alexis, Ricky, Kiana, Makiha, Syann; and five siblings.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Green River Bible Church. Family was at the church Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment was in the Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
Ray Downard
PRICE-Ray William Downard, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in Orem, Utah.
He was born Nov. 2, 1915 in Price, Utah to Arnel William and Olga Richelmann Downard.
Married Lucille Anderson on July 22, 1937 in Price, later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they raised two children and one foster son in their favorite town of Price.
Ray was an amazing person. He was never too busy to help someone in need. He supported his family by working as a building contractor. Ray served in the community as the Carbon County Assessor; a member of the first Jeep Posse (search and rescue team) in Price; and as the president of the Price Chamber of Commerce.
You can see the fruits of his labors to this day as he was instrumental in the founding and eventual success of the Price Prehistoric Museum, where he also served as Chairman of the Board. He loved history and nature.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lucille; son, Jerry (Vonda) Downard; daughter, Linda (Ralph) Dent; foster son, John (Gail) Zarkis; eight grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service, Wednesday, Dec.12, 2007, 11:30 a.m., Price Fifth LDS Ward Chapel, 545 East 400 North. Family will be at the church Wednesday from 10-11:15 a.m. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
Albert Valdez
Price-loving son, father, grandson, nephew and uncle, Albert Ray Valdez, age 39, passed away Dec. 3, 2007 at his home.
He was born June 27, 1968, in Price, Utah to Joe Albert Valdez and Viola Flores.
He enjoyed playing baseball and drawing. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his daughter Chriselyn and biking with her.
Survived by his mother, Viola Flores; daughter, Chriselyn Valdez, both of Price; father, Joe Albert (Melanie) Valdez; sister, Paige Valdez, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandparents, Isador (Rose) Jacquez, Price; also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral Mass Saturday was held Dec. 8, 2007, 12 noon, Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Friday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to service. Committal service Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Albert’s daughter Chriselyn Valdez, 749 South Elm, Price, UT, 84501.
Louise P. Funk
FERRON-Louise Page Funk, 85, passed away Dec. 9, 2007 in Ferron, Utah. Louise was born on Aug. 26, 1922, in Slaterville, Utah, to John Henry Page and Mary Lucinda Bingham. She was the youngest of three daughters.
Louise grew up in Huntsville where she attended school until high school. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1940. Louise married Air Force pilot Randall Anderson in 1943. She was widowed several months later when Randall’s plane was shot down during WWII.
On Dec. 2, 1944, she married Jack Jesse Funk in Salt Lake City. They spent most of their married life in Ferron, Utah where they raised five sons. Jack passed away July 27, 1983.
Louise worked for many years at Singleton’s Grocery Store in Ferron and then became the dietary manager at the Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center. After retirement, she served on their Board of Directors for 20 years. In 1985-86 Louise served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles, Calif. She worked for many years as a temple worker at the Manti Temple.
Louise was known as a wonderful cook, and she was known for her beautiful afghans. She loved spending time at the family cabin at Ferron Reservoir, fishing and hunting.
She was preceded in death by both parents and her sister Emeline.
Louise is survived by her five sons: Craig W. (Myrlena), J. Brent (Norma), and Phil J., all of Ferron; Don R. (Linda) of West Jordan; and John H. of Salt Lake City; her sister: Christy Phippen of Pleasant View; sister-in-law: Genevieve Anderton of Salt Lake City; 17 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at 12 noon at the Millsite LDS Ward Meetinghouse, 200 North State (Highway 10) in Ferron. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening, Dec. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, and Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Jonnita Kae Oliver
LAWRENCE-Our precious sweet little girl, Jonnita Kae Oliver, age 28, died Dec. 7, 2007, in Lawrence, Utah. She was born Nov. 14, 1979.
Jonnita enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors. She was always surrounded by many friends. She loved spending time with her daughter, Jaylyn, and her Grandpa and Grandma. She has now been reunited with her best friend, her Grandma Carol. She had a very special relationship with her brother Jake.
Jonnita is survived by her daughter, Jaylyn; mother and father: Tracy and Wayde Nielsen; brother and sisters: Jake, Cassie Jo, Martee Rae; and Grandpa John.
She was preceded in death by her Grandma Carol and Uncle Jed.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Huntington Fifth Ward LDS Church, 115 South 400 East. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Lawrence Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Nicholas J Beardall
PRICE- Nicholas J Beardall age 76 of Price, husband of Beverly B. Beardall, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Price Fourth Ward LDS Chapel, 545 East 400 North. Interment will follow at Price City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
