Pirate baseball season comes to end.
The 2007 baseball season came to a close last week for the Green River Pirates with the final region games against Manila. Coach Greg Parsons knew this could be a long season from the beginning since this year’s team was so young and he was right.
On that last day of play, Green River split with Manila. Green River won the first game 15-0 as Brennan Bigelow pitched a no-hitter. Manila won the next game 12-8 for their first win of year.
Playing in Region 18 this season, the Pirates were able to only win four ball games while losing six. Dugway won the region title with a 9-1 region record and a 14-6 overall season record. Tintic was second in region with an 8-2 record and the third place finisher was Wasatch Academy with a 6-4 record. The region qualified three places to go to state.

After Green River, Manila was next with a 1-7 record and last place went to Wendover. Wendover went winless this season.
The best in the state this season was Wayne High School. Wayne went 17-0 for the season. West Ridge Academy went 17-2 and Tabiona finished 14-3. Eight teams qualified for the state tournament at Utah Valley State College. The two third place teams from the other two regions had a play-in game to join the first and second place teams from their regions.
Green River defeated Wendover twice, 14-1 and 16-2. Their other region win was over second place Tintic. They won that game 5-4.
Bigelow hit the only homerun for the season. Keith Clark hit the only triple. Those with doubles included both Bigelow and Clark along with Holden Marshall, Tyson Johnson, Elias Polito, and Sarah Swalberg.
