PRICE-Douglas Michael (Mike) Pendergrass, age 57, passed away in St. George on July 16, 2007 from cancer.
He was born July 9, 1950 in Fresno, Calif. to Clarence and Hazel Barrington Pendergrass. His family moved to Gridley, Calif. where he attended school.
Married Cindy Hepworth on Jan. 6, 1968. They were married for 25 years and had three sons. They later divorced. Married Heidi Strong on June 6, 1993, later divorced.
He grew up with a love of the outdoors and moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah in 1977 where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and 4-wheeling with his family and friends.
He moved to Price in 1981 and worked in the mining industry for Emery Mining and Cypress-Plateau Mining for 15 years.
“Grass” as he was referred to by many of his friends was known for always having a good hunting story and his great sense of humor. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed working with the scouts.
Survived by his mother, Hazel, Gridley, Calif.; sons, Shane (Paulette), St. George; Jason (Danielle), Sutter, Calif.; Chad (Tisa), Price; three stepsons, Doug Strong, St. George; Dave and Nathan Strong, Spanish Fork; sister, Kaye (Stan) Abshirer, Madera, Calif.; brother, Nick (Kathy) Pendergrass, Gridley, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Mikka, Makenna, Chanse, and Cheramie.
Preceded in death by his father.
Funeral service, Sat., July 21, 2007, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery.

Lynn “Brent” Wardle


PRICE-Lynn Brent Wardle, age 27, died July 17, 2007 in Huntington, Utah. He was born March 1, 1980 in Denver, Colo. to Lynn and Kim Wardle.
Brent loved to ride his Harley and four-wheeler, as well as fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends especially with his fianc�e Tara and stepson Anthony. All who knew him counted on Brent.
He had a smile and laugh that we will never forget. Brent was and always will be our family’s strength. He will always be missed.
He is survived in death by his fianc�e, Tara Leamaster; stepson, Anthony; father, Lynn Wardle; mother, Kim Wardle; brother, Mike Wardle; sister, Rachel Wardle; grandmother, Collene Skalze, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Betty Wardle; grandfather, Fredrick Kersten; uncle, Rod Komar; aunt, Gail Wardle; cousins, Sammie Mounteer, Andria Wardle, and Ted Wardle.
Graveside services were held Fri. July 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Castle Dale City Cemetery. A viewing was held Friday from noon.-1:45 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 710 North Center Castle Dale, Utah. Interment followed the graveside services, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

Allen S. Bills


SALT LAKE/SOLDIER SUMMT-Allen Scott Bills, age 66, passed away July 18, 2007 at home while surrounded by his family.
He was born July 14, 1941 in Martin, Utah to Tracy Scott and Genevieve Hopper Bills.
Married Sondra Christensen, Feb. 27, 1960 in Dragerton, Utah.
Allen was a former resident of Salt Lake where he owned and operated A. & J. Furniture for many years. In 1981 he returned to Carbon County and began working for Smith Transit driving miners to Valley Camp.
Allen loved the outdoors, archery hunting, fishing, and his most memorable memories were those he shared with family in his beloved Soldier Summit.
Survived by his wife, Sondra Bills, East Carbon; daughter, Dixie (Dennis) Nichols, Price; son, Jim (Rosie) Bills, Salt Lake; nine grandchildren and two and a half great-grandchildren.
Funeral service, Mon., July 23, 2007, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. Family was at Mitchell’s Monday one hour prior to service. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.

Ila Howell


PRICE-Our loving mother, grandmother, and longtime friend, Ila May Abrams Howell passed away July 17, 2007 in Price at the age of 84.
She was born March 12, 1923 in Eads, Colo. and was the last of nine children of Bert and Julia Johnson Abrams.
Married Edward S. Howell, Oct. 5, 1940 in Prescott, Ariz. He passed away on Oct. 6, 1986. Ila was an avid reader, she enjoyed doing needlework, and relaxing in the comforts of her home. She loved traveling, caring for flowers, and it was said that she could make anything grow.
Ila could always be found in her home working on the computer, e-mailing family and friends, or playing cards. A favorite pastime was playing on her Nintendo, she said this helped her arthritis. “We Love You Mom and Will Miss You Dearly”.
Ila is survived by two sons, Bill (Vicky) Howell, Helper, Leslie (Gretchen) Howell, Wellington; daughter, Lori Wallace, St. George; grandchildren, Amy, Erin, Rebecca, Lindsay and Jason; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Talia.
Preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Margaret Howell; son, Edward S. “Skip” Howell, Jr., five sisters and three brothers.
Ila was laid to rest in the Price City Cemetery on Fri., July 20, 2007, at 11 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.

Erina Alexander


PRICE-Erina Emily Alexander, age 90, passed away peacefully July 18, 2007.
She was born July 10, 1917 to David and Adel Berthi Alexander in Sunnyside, Utah and soon after this the family moved to Hiawatha. In 1979 Erina and her brother William moved to their home in Price. At the time of her passing she was residing at the Heirloom Inn in Price. No matter where Erina lived she was a good neighbor and was loved by all.
She was a loving daughter, special sister, wonderful godmother and a very dear friend.
Erina was a devoted Catholic and she volunteered many services and hours to her church. In 1999 she was elected as Catholic Woman of the Year for Notre Dame, which was a great honor for her. Erina was a very special person who sponsored many young people for baptisms and confirmation.
She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, and her infectious smile could brighten any room. As a gifted homemaker and cook she always shared her meals, talents and stories with others. She loved animals and had two dear pets, “Porkchop” and “Bootsie”.
Erina is survived by a huge family of friends that will never forget her kindness, love and support. She will always hold a place in our hearts for the special ways she touched our lives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother; and brothers, Dave and William. Now eternally united may you all rest in peace.
Funeral mass, Mon., July 23, 2007, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Sunday evening 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Sunday and Monday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Notre Dame Church, Rocky Mountain Hospice both of Price or a charity of choice.

Patricia A. West


SALT LAKE CITY- Our sweet mother and grandmother, Patricia Adelaide West, returned home to her heavenly father. July 3, 2007 at the age of 67, after a long illness.
Pat was born in Lompoc, Calif. on Dec. 10, 1939 to Russell and Rosemary Kahler.
She was married to James H. West in April 30, 1956. They raised two children, Jim E. and Loretta.
Pat was a longtime resident of Castle Dale. She loved horses, and was a talented artist and a splendid cook. She operated The Outpost Cafe in Castle Dale. Pat is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Patricia is survived by son Jim (Susie) Spring Creek, Nev. daughter Loretta (Jody) Lynch Atlanta, Ga., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers Rusty, Dennis; sister Nancy.
Graveside service’s were held July 7, 2007 at Redwood Memorial Estates in Salt Lake City.

Chad Bell


CLEVELAND – Chad Marvin Bell, age 26, died July 20, 2007 in Cleveland, Utah. He was born Feb. 3, 1981 in Price, Utah to Marvin C. and Ardyth Allred Bell.
Chad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his youngest years in Huntington and Cleveland. He later moved to Carbon County and then back to Cleveland to be close to his parents. He worked in carpentry and construction. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapshooting, bowling, golfing, and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his son, Hunter Joseph Marvin Bell and Hunter’s mother, Candace Thompson of Price; parents, Marvin and Ardyth Bell of Cleveland; sisters, Tina (Justin) Bradley of Cleveland; and Valery Bell of Helper; brother, Corey (Julie) Bell of Cleveland; nephews, Jaxon Bradley and Tayden Bell; niece, Jayce Bradley; grandparents, George and Ann Bell of Orangeville; Don Allred of Huntington; Vonnie Dea Allred of Vernal; and great-grandmother, Marie Atwood of Elmo, Utah.
Funeral services were held Wed. July 25, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland Second Ward Chapel, 355 West 100 North Cleveland, Utah. A family gathering will be held Wed. July 25, 2007 from 9-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the chapel. Interment was in the Cleveland City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

Beatriz Cordova


GREEN RIVER- Our loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, “Mrs. Bea”, Beatriz Soto Cordova, age 44 passed away July 18, 2007 in Grand Junction, Colo.
She was born Aug. 5, 1962 in Juarez, Mexico to Donaciano and Guadalupe Rubio Soto.
Married James “Jim” Cordova April 23,1988 in Green River.
Beatriz enjoyed reading, dancing, and watching her only child, the love of her life Adriana succeed in her pursuits in school, sports, and life. Beatriz also enjoyed her work as an Americorps Vista Volunteer, working with and improving lives and uniting people, especially the young children at the Community Center.
Survived by her loving husband Jim, Green River; daughter, Adriana, Green River; mother, Guadalupe Soto; brothers and sisters, Agustin, Maria, Ramon, Lorena, Eugenio, Manuel, and Claudia.
Preceded in death by her father, Donaciano Soto.
Funeral mass, Tues. July 24, 2007 11 a.m. Green River High School Auditorium. Family will be at the school one hour prior to service. Committal, Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
