Desertview ProRodeo in its 9th year

The Desertview ProRodeo finished its ninth run at the Castle Dale Fairgrounds July 26-28 before record high crowds. The Thursday night crowd out in support of “Tough Enough To Wear Pink,” had 738 people support the rodeo’s attempt to raise money for breast cancer awareness. This money will be kept in a fund for local people. The Castle Valley Ranch colt giveaway on Friday night established a new Friday night record for attendance.
In the steer wrestling, Seth Hadlock from Liberty, Utah set a new arena record with a time of 4.3 and took home $1,287. In team roping, John Stafford from Nampa, Idaho and Dusty Morse from Ogden set a new record with a time of 5.2 seconds and took home $1,005 each.
Vickie Solmonsen, from Riverton, ranked third in the world in barrel racing placed first with a time of 17.71 seconds winning prize money of $1,022. In bareback Jess Davis of Payson won with a score of 82 points and a purse of $1,064.
In saddlebronc, Steve Woolsey won with a score of 80 points winning $1,065. In the bull riding event Clance Mummert from Bellevue, Idaho won $1,307 with a score of 81 points. In the tiedown roping, Jason Vohs of Las Vegas had a 8.9 seconds score for the money, $1,349.
The rodeo committee said the competition was just outstanding. Winnings for the three days totaled more than $35,000 in prize money including the wild cow milking.
Rodeo organizers want to thank everyone for their support of the rodeo.
All the volunteers, advertisers and the rodeo fans make each year’s rodeo run smoothly.
Organizers were pleased with the first year of “Tough Enough to Wear Pink,” and view it as a good start to what will be an annual event.
The Castle Dale fire department, Emery County Sheriff’s Office, EMTs, Castle Dale City employees, concessions and ticket takers all deserve a big thanks for their efforts in making the Desertview ProRodeo a success for the ninth time.
