After you lose weight and become less fat, there are all sorts of questions that now have to be answered. And, as now I am learning, most of the answers cost money. New this, new that, nothing the same.
The first and biggest question that has to be answered is what do I wear. After having lost over 80 pounds, my wife said I could not wear the same clothes as before. She actually said something about not being seen with me in public without something different on my body. I started slowly.
Slowly was the way because you had to make yourself believe that this was not just a short trip back to fat. One has to make sure that there is a reasonable expectation of staying in the size that you are now wearing. And besides, one does become attached to one”s clothes, so you have to be in the proper mood to dispose of hundreds of dollars worth of clothing.
After two months of staying in the same size of pants, I finally went to the closet and started. I started slowly with church pants, went to my one pair of Levis and then really got brave and went for the shorts. Out they went, into the pile never to be worn by me again. The 42″s were gone and now I swear they will never be back.
Then I went for the shirts. Dress shirts that sort of looked like tents, collared shirts, tee shirts, Hawaiian shirts, sweaters that now drowned me. I got rid of a lot of clothes some that had actually never even been worn, they were gifts.
What I did not know and I bet you did not know either is that your feet and head actually get a little smaller when you weigh less.
The next problem is injuries. My brain, no jokes here cause I can see what you are thinking, realizes that I am skinnier but it still does not realize that I am not younger. Hence injuries because I try to do things that I could do twenty years ago.
I currently have two sprained ankles from basketball from landing on people”s feet Before I never left the ground so it was impossible to land on someone else”s foot. I have a sore back because I can now reach for things that I used to have to move for. It is the pits to be punished because you are now able to do that which before was only a dream.
And now I have one other complaint. Why do we say that we lost weight? I did not lose it; I struggled to make it go away. I have lost car keys, I have lost my wallet, I have lost my money but I have not lost weight. I worked really hard.
I sweated, I changed my eating habits, I worked at it with ample dedication so I now do not like to be asked about losing weight, I like to be asked about the new me and how it makes me feel and how good life is.
I like to talk about the healthy things I now know. I like to encourage others, that why I write about me. It can be done, I am proof and now I am going to prove that it can be more than a temporary thing, I am going for the long haul. I will not re-buy those other clothes.
I am now through with this saga for a while. I will re-visit this issue down the line in six or seven months to let you know that I am still good. If you would like this to be you then you just have to start and now is a good time. Good luck and stay strong.
