Grace Lea Nixon Johansen

A cry of “That’s my girl!” shook heaven on July 24, 2007 when Grace and Gene Johansen were reunited. Grace Lea Nixon Johansen, 87, of Castle Dale, Utah died July 24, 2007 at her home. She was born Aug. 24, 1919 in Hiawatha, Utah toDr.James William Nixon III and Margaret Lea Nixon. She married Oral Eugene Johansen on May 11, 1940 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Grace was reared in Castle Dale and was a lifelong resident. She had a profound love for the community. She graduated from Brigham YoungUniversity. She served the students of Castle Dale Elementary, North Emery High and Emery High as a drama, speech, English, and PE (gymnastics) teacher for 37 years. She was a favorite teacher and was known with affection as “Mrs. Jo.”
Grace brought the first library to Emery County and was a staunch advocate of education. She spent countless hours in play practice and directed plays and musicals for the high school and for community theatre. She directed the Blue and Gold Junior Riding Club in Castle Dale and loved to ride her horse “Queen”in her red cowboy hat. Her favorite place to be was at her cabin in Joe’s Valley with her husband, and grandchildren. Her spirited personality, her penchant for storytelling and her relentless encouragement to be more will be deeply missed by those who loved her most.
She is survived by her children: Craig (Jonnie) Johansen, Castle Dale; Margaret (Dave) Oveson, Tetonia, Idaho; Brent (Debbie) Williams, Ogden; Scott (Laurel) Johansen, Castle Dale; Brice Williams, Orem; Natalie (Gary) Woodroffe, Vancouver, Wash., Nathan (Debbie) Johansen, Castle Dale; and her sister, Phyllis (Bruce) Mendenhall, Mapleton. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Susan K.; one brother, Jim Nixon; and two sisters, Gladys Nelsonand Marjorie Dean Robinson.
Funeral services were July 28 at 11 a.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center, 35 East Main. Visitation was July 27 at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services.
Interment was at the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Pres Flores
SUNNYSIDE-Our loving “Papa” Pres Flores Jr., age 84, passed away suddenly July 26, 2007 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
He was born Sept. 22, 1922 in Juanita, Colo. to Pres and Rebecca Quintana Flores.
Married Maxine Cox, May 26, 1946 in Grand Junction, Colo.; she passed away May 1, 1998.
Pres honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. He was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Kaiser Steel Local # 9958.
Papa devoted his life to his children, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Pres will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by five daughters and one son, Bonnie Beckley and Bob Anderson, East Carbon, Benny (Geli) Flores, Pontotoc, Miss., Karen (John) Johnson, Charleston, N.C., Sharon (Willie) Ellington, Price, Marion (Kenneth) Brinkley, East Carbon; Kathy (Rick) Albert, Sunnyside; sister, Rebecca (David) Karnes, Redondo Beach, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Rebecca “Pudgy”; son-in-law, Tim Beckley; grandson, Justin Flores; sister, Pauline Gallegos; and brother, Frank Flores.

Cecil Graham
PRICE-Our loving husband, father, brother, neighbor and dear friend, Cecil S. Graham Jr., age 84, passed away July 24, 2007 in Price.
He was born March 13, 1923 in Farmington, N.M. to Cecil S. Graham Sr., and Ruby Pearl Hayes.
Married Ina Tumburas, 1971 in Provo and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Cecil was a wonderful neighbor, friend, and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II where he was awarded the purple heart.
Cecil was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed working the remote parts of Alaska as a bush pilot and tour guide with his wife. He spent many hours in the mountains riding his four-wheeler, hunting, fishing and each deer season he looked forward to returning to the family ranch in New Mexico.
Cecil will be dearly missed by his family, neighbors, and many friends at the Senior Center in Price.
Survived by his wife, Ina Graham, Price; daughter, Cecila, Gallup N.M.; sisters, Gertrude LaRose, Snowflake, Ariz., Loretta Kruckeberg, Phoenix, Ariz., Pearl Jones, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Lornel Nay, Price, Barbara Wilson, Mapleton.

Mary Barker
PRICE- Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary Mae Ellis Barker, age 86, passed away peacefully July 27, 2007.
She was born Dec. 5, 1920 in Topeka, Kan. to Virgil and Anna Hyle Ellis. Married Wesley Ray Barker July 9, 1937 in Moab, he died May 11, 1993.
Mary was the glue of her family. Her passion was for her family and her happiest times were spent with her family in the LaSal mountains where she grew up. When we think about her we will think of kindness beyond words and the unconditional love for family.
“We knew little that day, that God would call your name. In life, we loved you dearly, in death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. A part of us went with you…The day God called you home.”
Survived by her three daughters and one son, Darlene (Darwin) Dull, Kearny, Ariz; Ardith (Glen) Nielson, Price; Donna Tyson, Price; Seldon (Carole) Barker, Spring Glen; son-in-law, Earl Wheeler, St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Alice Byrnes, Moab; Dorothy Anderson, Moab; Pearl Warnock, Scio, Ore; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Keith and Doug Barker; daughter, Virginia Wheeler; sister, Edith Barker; two brothers, Harry Ellis and Lawrence Day.
Funeral service, Tues., July 31, 2007, 10 a.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Monday from 7-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service.
Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Geneva Mazie Marshall Lake
CASTLE DALE-Our loving, mother, grandmother, and sister, Geneva Mazie Marshall Lake, age 86, passed away July 29, 2007 in Ferron, Utah. She was born March 31, 1921 in Mohrland, Utah to John W. and Martha Ellen Marshall. Geneva was raised and attended schools in Huntington. She married George Berdell Lake, Oct. 7, 1938. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on Dec. 9, 1954. They were married for 53 years and were longtime residents of Castle Dale.
“Neva” was a devoted mother, homemaker, and gifted quilter, who enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. She had a unique and endearing sense of humor; everyone was welcomed with a smile into her home. She worked as a teachers aide for Ann Self Training Center for 10 years. Her strong testimony and example were shown by her service in Cub Scouts, Relief Society, Primary, Family History Extraction, and a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City.
She is survived by her children, Billie Jean (Vern) Jorgensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Keith (Genevieve) Lake of Castle Dale, Utah; Randall (Lynne’) Lake of Emery, Utah; Rhonda (Steven) Cox of Orem, Utah; Derrell (Teresa) Lake of Castle Dale, Utah; Kerry (Elaine) Lake of Castle Dale, Utah; Sheila (Roy) Sharp of Hackett, Ariz.; Carma (Reed) Fehlberg of Huntington, Utah; Lorene Lake of Price, Utah; and Loraine (Perry) Cloward of Castle Dale, Utah; sister, Leah Jones; sisters-in-law, Mae Lake, Beverly Marshall and Reva McKee; daughter-in-law, Shirley Lake; 62 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband George Berdell Lake; and sons: Jimmie Berdell, Johnny Ray, and Marlin (stillborn), and 13 siblings.
Funeral services will be Sat., Aug. 4, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center (35 East Main) with a viewing from 12-1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
David Samuel Wright
PRICE- David Samuel Wright, age 39, died July 23, 2007 at his home in Price.
David was born Aug. 13, 1967 in Hayward, Calif. to Wayne and Beverly Wright.
Married Lezlie Lauritsen on Aug. 3, 1995, later divorced. They have two children Jannicke and Torbjorn (Toby) whom he dearly loved.
David lived in California, Hawaii, Washington, and Utah, but it was the North Shore of Oahu where he lived for 11 years that was a part of his heart and soul.
David loved to surf, snorkel, and boogie board. He loved music and loved to play the guitar. He liked doing calculus problems just for fun. David loved studying foreign languages and was fluent in Spanish. He loved animals, especially his cats Booty and Sissy. He loved his cable television and was an avid channel surfer. He loved chocolate milkshakes most of all. David was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Aloha David, may you find the peace you deserve. We love you.

Sophia Critchlow
PRICE-Sophia Nielsen Critchlow, age 89, passed away July 26, 2007 at her home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1918 in Wellsville, Utah to Wilford Lewis and Louise Poppleton Nielsen. Married John C. Critchlow, July 25, 1940 in Price, Utah. He passed away March 30, 1975.
Sophia was a longtime resident of Carbon County where she worked various jobs in her youth. She was employed at the Standard Store, Standard Hospital, Workman’s Market, Koret of California, and she enjoyed working alongside her husband on the farm.
Sophia was a member and president of the Federated Womens Club of Price. She served as a Primary Counselor for the Price First Ward and taught Sunday School for many years. She will be dearly missed by her family and many longtime friends.
Survived by her children, Mildred (David) Cave; Bud (Cherie) Critchlow; Lynda Varner; all of Price; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Pudge Nielsen, the remaining sibling of the Nielsen Clan whose duty it is now to close the door and turn off the lights, residing in Helper, Utah; and sister-in-law, Annie Nielsen, of Price.
Preceded in death by parents, husband, grandson, James B. Critchlow; eight siblings Wilford Nielsen, wife Harriet and second wife Lizzie Nielsen; Vernon (Dutch) and wife Fern Nielsen; Katie Nielsen Banasky and husband Gerald; Thelma Nielsen; Rhoda Nielsen Udovich and husband Valentine; William “Bill” Nielsen; Alberta Nielsen and Edward Nielsen.
