Concerns of speeding motorists was a topic at the August Cleveland Town Council meeting. Cleveland resident Heather Norton, raised concerns she and her husband Eric have about the rate of speed in which motorists are traveling past their house on Main Street. Norton told the council this has been a continuing problem for the past three years. She has called the Emery County Sheriff’s Office a number of times and did not feel like it has helped. She asked about the possibility of a stop sign or speed bump on the street.
Mayor Parkins stated that he believed something like that would have to be done through UDOT. He asked Heather to give the town a chance to talk to the Sheriff and the Highway Patrol offices about getting some extra patrols in the area. Councilman Greg Oliver said he would call Sheriff Guymon in regards to getting the speed trailer and setting it up on the street. Mayor Parkins asked the Nortons to come back in September and re-visit this issue.
In other business conducted by the council, the Holmes/Jennings annexation ordinance was approved and a building permit was approved for Mike Taylor.
Additionally, Cleveland Town will be accepting bids on a Kubota GF 1800 mower with deck. Notices are posted at the town office, the post office, and the Country Corner. Bids will be accepted until the next regular meeting which is scheduled for Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
Mayor Parkins also commended everyone for the success of the recent Cleveland Days Celebration.
Town clerk Jamie Jensen was recognized for all that she does in organizing and putting together the celebration.
