The Sound of Music, perhaps the most beloved of all musicals, is being presented this week at the Emery High School auditorium. The high school and the Emery County Community Theatre are joining together this year to present this heart warming story for your enjoyment.
The widowed, retired Austrian naval officer, Captain Von Trapp (Jake Barnett) is in need of some help. His seven children have a certain talent for running off their governess, so he is, once more, in need of another one. He runs his home in a stern, military way, so thinks the local Abbey, with their restrictive environment, will provide the perfect candidate to solve his problem. Maria (Tricia Erickson), a less than obedient nun with a rather free spirit, is sent to the Von Trapp home.
Though the first days are filled with struggle and chaos, ultimately her presence fills the home with music, happiness, and love. These things certainly are needed because the year is 1938 and war with Germany looms over all of Austria, bringing unforeseen change for the Von Trapp’s.
The Von Trapp children are well played by: Dory Peacock, Bryson Weaver, Elise DeBry, Landon Barnett, Nancy Dawes, Aspen Bloomer and Corbin Bloomer. The Captain’s friends Max and the Baroness are played by Ben Partis and Kaylee Van Wagoner, respectively. Of course there are nuns, postulants, house servants, and German officers/soldiers also.
The director Neal Peacock and co-director Laurie Pitchforth have some fun changes planned for this production. A live orchestra will be on stage along with pianists Marilee Cox and her daughter Marissa. The audience will sing every song right along with the cast which promises to be unique and enjoyable for all.
You can see the musical at the Emery High auditorium Feb. 28-29, and March 1 at 7 p.m. The tickets prices are $5 for adults an $4 for children 12 and under. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. Bring the whole family for an entertaining, memorable evening.
