Fund Raiser Yard/Bake Sale


A yard sale to raise funds for a mission trip will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on May 16-17 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. To donate items or baked goods, bring them to the church during the day until the sale. For more information contact Pastor Carl Sitterud at 687-2933.

Relay For Life


The Relay For Life cancer walk will be held June 20-21 at the Emery High School track beginning at 6 p.m. The survivor’s lap will be held to begin the event, and the walk will continue through the night with a luminary lighting taking place after dark. International Migratory Bird Day Celebrated At Desert Lake On May 10


The Division of Wildlife Resources will participate in the celebration of International Migratory Bird Day by sponsoring a waterbird viewing event on May 10 at Desert Lake in Emery County from 8-11 a.m. The event is free to the public and no pre-registration is required. DWR biologists will be on-hand with spotting scopes and binoculars to assist the public with waterfowl identification. Know Before You Go


An ATV permit class will be held May 15 at the old courthouse building beginning at 7 p.m. for ages 8-16 to be legal to drive on public lands. You must pre-register at the Emery County Recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale by May 13. Strike Out Cancer COED Softball Tournament


The tournament will start at 6 p.m. May 30 at the Complex in Huntington and go all night. The entry fee is $140. Questions and to register call Mark Justice 687-2403 or 687-2234. Entry fees will be donated to the Emery County Relay For Life.

The Emery County Progress is in the process of putting together the senior pages for the graduation edition. If you did not have your photo taken at school and would like to have a photo on those pages, bring one into our office located at 410 East Main Street, Castle Dale. American Legion Yard Sale and Bake Sale


The American Legion Auxiliary Post Unit #42 will be holding a bake sale and yard sale at Mayor’s Park in Ferron on May 17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in conjunction with Armed Forces Day. All proceeds will go towards Operation Home Support which is a program where packages are sent to our men and women who are serving. Irrigation Workshops

Special Needs Dance Program


Registration will be held May 12 at the Emery County Recreation office for children with special needs dance program. The program will run May 14-15 from 4-5:30 p.m. each day. This program is for children who are physically or mentally challenged. Your child must qualify to participate in this program. For more information contact Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.

Heritage Days Rodeo Concessions

Attention Landowners and Farmers Pipeline Awareness Meeting


For those that live on or near pipeline rights-of-way. The pipeline group will be holding a public awareness meeting open to landowners and farmers who are located or work near a pipeline right of way. The meeting will be held at the Carbon County fairgrounds event center, 393 South Fairgrounds Road, Price, on May 20 at 6:30 p.m. A free buffet dinner will be served for all the attendees from Carbon and Emery counties. Festive Friday


Festive Fridays, sponsored by Utah State University Extension will be held May 9-Family Reunions and Picnics. Note, the May date is a change from May 2. This class begins at noon upstairs in the courthouse on Main Street in Castle Dale. RSVP to the extension office at 381-2381. This class will cost $2 for lunch and handouts. Lots of ideas for spring and summer fun.

Diabetes Class


A free four week educational class for anyone interested in diabetes education. Classes will be taught May 8, 15, 22, 29 from 10 a.m.-noon at Active Re-Entry, 10 South Fairgrounds Road in Price. To register call Darlene at 637-4950. Class will be taught by Ellen Serfustini and will contain cooking and educational tips for those with diabetes.

Stroke and Osteoporosis Screening


Residents living in and around Huntington are invited to come in for a free screening. The complete screening package now includes a new heart rhythm screening which checks for irregular heartbeat, a major risk factor for stroke. The screening will be on May 13 at 11 a.m. from 176 West 100 North in Huntington. Appointments will begin at 11 a.m. Call 1-800-643-6188 for an appointment.

CEU Prehistoric Museum presents Works of Shaman Featuring Charles M. Huckeba


Artistic recreations of American Indian rock art that are masterpieces in their own right. The show can be seen at the museum art gallery through June 2008. General admission charges apply.

Womens and Mens Slow Pitch Softball


Emery County Recreation is registering teams for womens slow pitch softball and mens slow pitch softball. The mens league will be a metal bat league. Nominate Utah’s 2008 Outstanding Older Worker


Nominations will be accepted for Utah’s outstanding older worker for 2008 until June 1. An online nomination form or a printed nomination form can be accessed at www.experienceworks.org. Nominees or applicants must be 65 years of age or older, a resident of Utah, currently employed, and working at least 20 hours each week for pay.
