At the recent Huntington City Council meeting, the council approved a business license for Johnson Diesel Service. This business is presently operating in a residential area and is now moving to an industrial area at 810 North 400 East. Owner Don Johnson was present at the meeting and stated he has met all conditions and has been to the planning and zoning commission.
Jim Moore from Precis Communications was present to answer any questions concerning the purchase by Emery Telcom. Mayor Hilary Gordon handed out letters concerning the purchase explaining the progress. Emery Telcom has plans to cover and document as many public events as possible.
Moore said, “Precis has reached an agreement with Emery Telcom for the purchase of their assets. Now, Precis is requesting a release from the franchise agreement with Huntington City. The finalization of the purchase should be completed by Jan. 30, 2009. Emery Telcom will have local interest channels after the purchase.” The council approved the termination of the franchise agreement.
Mayor Gordon announced the cattlemans’ and the school district have reached agreement concerning the property near the junior high. She also stated the report from the inspection of the mill will be ready and discussed at the January meeting.
Council person Cathy Cowley thanked everyone for their help and support at the Christmas party and the Turkey Trot. She stated each event was very well attended and successful.
Councilman Jerry Livingston informed the council he had attended the mock disaster training held by XTO recently. He said everything worked perfectly and the training was very interesting. He said, “They tried the Code Red system in the county. It will be a great thing for Emery County.”
Livingston has also met with Darrel Leamaster of the special service district and discussed the need for a fire hydrant near the new mortuary. He will discuss the results with the county building inspector. He has toured the city and noted the sidewalks and has updated the map for the remaining needs for those.
Councilman Travis Larsen stated the planning committee has been working on chapter 14 which deals with annexations. They will have something to present at the January meeting.
Issues surrounding the adoption of an ordinance amending the city’s zoning ordinance were tabled until the January meeting.
The city’s meeting schedule was approved with the meetings for 2009 being held on the third Wednesday of each month.
Their next meeting will be Jan. 21, 2009.
