Emery County Drug Task force apprehends federal offender

By PATSY STODDARD Editor

The Emery County Drug Task Force was instrumental in sending a Huntington man away on federal weapons violation charges. The investigation was the result of a home invasion robbery in Huntington where the man said he had been robbed at gun point and a shot was fired. He said they took his oxycontin. Apparently the man fabricated the report to be able to obtain another prescription for oxycontin.
The investigation yielded the information that the man reporting the home invasion was was a restricted person who should not have been in possession of any firearms. Detective John Barnett saw the weapons in the man’s possession. A search warrant was obtained and an arrest warrant was issued. The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents aided with the arrest of the man. They had eight agents along with the Emery County Drug Task Force that served the search warrant. The man Victor Gilmore was in the Shady Acres trailer park in Huntington.
There was no resistance from Gilmore, as officers approached the trailer, he allowed them to enter the residence. In the resulting search there were three guns located and numerous rounds of ammunition for the guns as well as a small amount of marijuana.
Evidence gathered in the fabricated home invasion story led investigators to find out Gilmore was convicted of domestic violence in another state and a lifetime protective order is in effect for his ex-wife in Washington State. It is believed Gilmore was in the area because he had some relatives in Price. He was living on disability and didn’t hold a job in the area.
Gilmore was transported to Salt Lake by the ATF officers where he went before a federal magistrate on weapons violation charges. Locally he could be charged with simple possession and filing a false police report.
Federal charges could result in his spending four years in federal prison. He will be bound over for trial on these charges.
Detective Barnett said people should be aware of those persons who should not be in possession of fire arms. They include: people who are mentally incompetent; people dishonorably discharged from the military; illegal aliens; people who denounce their citizenship; people who are convicted felons; people who commit domestic violence; people with protective orders against them and people on parole or probation.
Barnett said the sheriff’s office has dealt with Gilmore on a few occassions.
Once for fighting with a neighbor and for intoxication.
Sheriff LaMar Guymon wants everyone to be aware that the rumors of a home invasion and a shooting in Huntington have been found to be unsubstantiated with further investigation of this case.
