Emery teams play in tourneys in St. George and Colorado

Emery baseball picks up second win at Montrose

The Emery High Spartans picked up their second win of this young season in a two-day tournament held in Montrose, Colo. this past weekend. With the victory, Emery is now 2-4 this season. Emery defeated Berthoud 15-5 and lost to Windsor 11-9 and to Alamosa 10-0.
Emery’s first scheduled game of the season was weathered out and the Spartans then split a two-game stay in Moab. Emery defeated Grand 9-5 to start the season and then lost the next day to Grand 4-2.
In the first game, the Spartans had nine hits with four of those being doubles. Skyler Jorgensen, Jordan Gee, Blake Mortensen and Nevin Jensen each had a double in the game. In the second Grand game, Emery garnered only four base hits with one by Gee being a triple. Jason Giles had two singles and Tayler Tanner had a single for Emery’s only hits of the game.
Against Cedar High, Emery would lose to the visitors 8-6. Cedar got on top 5-0 before Emery would score a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gee would single and score on a hit by Derek Allred. Emery would add five more runs in the sixth inning to cut the Cedar lead to 7-6 and then Cedar added an insurance run in the seventh inning.
In the sixth inning, Mortensen walked, Allred singled and Colby Snow doubled to score Mortensen. Nevin Jensen then singled to score Allred. Jorgensen got on base due to a fielder’s choice and Skyler Jensen would walk. Jason Giles then hit a double to score Jorgensen and Jensen and Emery could not get Giles home.
In the Colorado tournament, Emery hit the ball pretty well but Emery’s pitching was hit well. Giles led the way in Colorado by batting .600. Tanner batted .555 with Ryne Jones batting .428 and Mortensen batting .412. Also hitting the ball well was Colby Snow at .333 and Gee at .333. Addison Collard batted .300. Extra base hits in Colorado were Collard with two doubles and Snow with a double and Gee with two triples.
Emery is at Union this Wednesday and at Uintah in a week.
