The Emery County pool is plunging along day by day. Emery County Commissioner Drew Sitterud gave an update on the project at commission meeting. He said they are laying brick walls. The pool doors are in Italy and they won’t ship them until they are paid for. Commissioner Sitterud said the company needs to insure the doors so if any damage is done in the shipping then new doors will be provided or repaired. When this insurance certificate is in place the shipping will be done. County Treasurer Steven Barton said they need at least a day to get the money into the checking account for this transaction. These doors are sliding doors which can open between the indoor and outdoor pool to allow more air flow into the indoor pool area.
Commissioner Sitterud reported the women’s shower area is going up. There have been some problems with the scaffolding blowing down in the wind. “It is moving forward, it’s been slow due to the weather,” said Commissioner Sitterud. The contractors say they are looking at a July 31 completion date. Sitterud thanked Morris Sorensen for the work the road department has done on ground preparation.
The pool committee has worked on the color scheme for the pool; they will now need to choose a sign for the outside of the building.
Colors include: gray, white, black lockers and the brick has a speck of gold in it. The pool will be used for exercise and the lazy river channel can be used for walking. There will be a jetted hot tub; water sprayers will spray back into the pool so water can be recycled. It will be a competition pool used for swimming meets for the high school. P.E. classes can also use the pool. There is a diving board. The pool is also equipped for use by handicapped people and those in wheel chairs. The indoor pool is 25 yards in length and a depth of 12 feet to 3.5 feet on the shallow end.
Mostly the outdoor pool will be for the smaller children as the depth there begins at zero to four feet. Surrounding the outdoor pool will be loungers, grass, tables and an outdoor grill where picnics can be held. There will be a party room that is enclosed in glass. This room can be rented for parties. There will be an area that concessions can be sold during the swim meets and at other times.
The Emery County School District donated eight acres to the pool project; they are also paying for the paving of the parking lot, scoreboard and lanes for the meets. The high school hopes to be ready for a swim team for the 2008 season. The swim season runs the same time as basketball season. The outdoor pool in the winter will be allowed to freeze.
The indoor pool water and the deck will remain even, this is good for a competition pool with no back wash; the extra water is held in a surge tank. As people exit the pool, water will surge back in to keep the pool at an even level. As people enter the pool and water is displaced it will enter the surge tank for storage.
Sitterud said the Emery County pool will be at the top when dealing with sanitary conditions. The chemicals will prevent bacteria from forming in the pool. The pool noise is dealt with by noise panels which double as an insulation wall.
At commission meeting they approved the issuance and sale of $1 million of taxable lease revenue bonds of the Municipal Building Authority in connection with the financing of a portion of the community swimming pool facilities. The county can’t receive a grant without it affecting the PILT monies that come into the county. The MBA has the authority to accept grants; the MBA can’t take a bond for a project on which they don’t have any ownership. If the MBA takes ownership of $1 million of the loan then they are 1/5th owners of the project and therefore able to take the grant to finish the project. Commissioner Sitterud said it is a roundabout way of staying in line with all federal requirements.
