Nevin Jensen at bat for Emery |
Gatlan Huntington pitched his second straight complete game, got his second straight win and continued his streak of 12 innings without giving up an earned run as Emery traveled to Roosevelt and defeated Union 5-3 in a preseason baseball game. After having pitched a 5-inning no hitter last week against Alamosa, Colo., Huntington came back this week and allowed six hits but no earned runs in the win.
Emery scored a single run in the first inning as Taylor Tanner led off the game with a walk and Ryne Jones followed that up with a single. Blake Mortensen got hit by a pitch to load the bases and Tanner scored as a pitch also hit Derrick Allred. Emery was unable to get anybody else home.
Emery was able to score three runs in the third inning. Tanner and Skyler Jensen walked to lead off the inning and Jordan Gee brought those two and himself home with a homerun.
Emery’s last run scored in the fifth inning as Allred doubled and scored on a single by Huntington as the pitcher gave himself an insurance run.
In the ball game, Emery picked up four base hits, five walks and had five batters hit by a pitch.
Union scored their runs in two innings. They scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning after an Emery error and scored their last run in the bottom of the fourth inning after another Emery error.
Emery will have two games this week. Emery will travel to Uintah on Thursday and will open region 8 play with two games at Juan Diego on Friday.
