I was raised in Orangeville, the son of LaVar and Donna Sitterud. I live in Ferron with my wife Julie who is the secretary at San Rafael Junior High School. We are the parents of two boys, their wives and the grandparents of three grandchildren. My family is my greatest accomplishment. We have a good life here and care deeply about the future and quality of life in Emery County.
Most of my education has come from the college of “hard knocks”. I owned and operated my own business for 22 years. I learned it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and determination to survive the ups and downs that are simply part of business life. However, the rewards of working with and getting to know the people in the community through serving them and sharing their friendships made it all worthwhile and has also prepared me for the work of a commissioner.
For the past eight years I have been your county commissioner. This opportunity has been a great learning experience for me. My vision for Emery County continues to broaden. Because of my training, knowledge, and position I now hold and the coalition of local, state, and federal leaders I know and work with, there are many more opportunities for me to serve more effectively as your county commissioner. My desire to continue to improve our way of life in Emery County has grown even deeper and become my personal passion.
I have had the opportunity of serving on the Community Impact Board for the past three years. During this time I have been able to help each community and the county receive grants and zero interest loans. Some of these projects are new fire stations, city halls, sidewalks, city equipment, street lights, improvements to parks and rodeo grounds, new horse arena, new recreation centers, the next nine holes and improvements at Millsite Golf Course, new senior citizen centers, water and sewer projects, fire trucks, ambulances and the new pool complex There are many other projects that will be coming before the board. Because of my position on this board our county has had more opportunities to acquire money for these improvements. I can serve on this board for several more years giving Emery County many more opportunities for improvements to our county. If I am not reelected, this position will go to Grand or San Juan County and Emery County will not have the opportunity to have someone sit on the board in this position for many years.
Concerns I have are Wild and Scenic Rivers, RS-2477, economic development, the support of all local businesses and continue to promote new business with employment opportunities. I will fight any increase in taxes and shifting centrally assessed taxes from the large industries to homeowners and local businesses. I will fight to never have to borrow monies to run the county. Living within our own means is very important to me.
Being your county commissioner full time i am easily accessible. I would enjoy the opportunity of visiting with you and hearing your concerns, ideas, and questions. Your ideas and input are important to me. My door is always open. If I have hurt anyone in anyway I sincerely apologize and ask for your forgiveness.
With your support and working together we can “Get the work done” for Emery County.
