Mayor Pro Tem Trent Jackson opened the first meeting he has conducted since the resignation of Mayor Gil Conover. Jackson announced the opening of the position for mayor, and if any of the current council members enter their name into consideration, they will not have the opportunity to vote on Mayor Conover’s replacement. The selection will be considered at the Oct. 23 council meeting.
Property owners and water users along the Molen/Dutch Flat water line were at the meeting to comment concerning the application for a water connection along Molen Road. A resident owns six acres and is wishing to construct a home on the property. There is a water connection on the property, but it is in the wrong location for the proposed home construction. His request was to move the stock water connection and use it for the home.
Jackson informed the resident that an agreement is in place with the water users on that line, and by this agreement there is a cap of 34 water connections and that cap has been met. This means the city is not at liberty to allow another connection for the home construction. The existing water connection on the property is not the correct connection needed for home construction.
Many of the current water users along this line commented and the consensus was for the Molen water users to meet and propose to increase the number of connections allowed. Jackson said if this is done, the water users can come back to the city with a new proposal for consideration.
Jackson heard a request from a property owner in Ferron to purchase property between her fence line and the curb. This portion of property is an irregular size and shape and she wishes to purchase the portion of the property that is not needed by the city for sidewalks. A public hearing on this matter is scheduled for Oct. 23.
During the public comments, a resident made his dissatisfaction known as to the nuisance of barking dogs in the city. He said the property next to his is vacant and the landowner is keeping his hunting hounds there. He stated the dogs bark all night and all day, and has been going on for more than a year. He has called the landowner to complain, and now the landowner is putting shock collars on the dogs at night and as a result they only bark during the day. The resident said it is very bad as the family cannot go out in the yard for activities due to the noise.
Jackson informed the resident about the ordinances in Ferron for animals. Jackson is aware the number of dogs is breaking the ordinance. “We will begin the process with a letter to the dog owner informing him of the violation of the city’s nuisance ordinance,” said Jackson.
The next Ferron City Council meeting will be held Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Ferron City Hall.
