After having played not so good the week before and having brought out the ire of their coach, the Emery High Lady Spartans returned to the volleyball court and split region contests and played better in doing so.
Head Coach Kris Bell commented on the team, “Even though we lost, we played much better, we played like a team and we played the whole game. The girls did so much better this week than they did last week. They had better attitudes. They need to know that they can do it, play with the competition.”
On Tuesday, Emery defeated Salem Hills in five games. The scores were 25-27, 25-22, 25-14, 24-26 and 15-7. On Thursday, Emery hosted Delta and lost in four games. The scores were 18-25, 25-22, 19-25 and 9-25.
Against Delta, Emery fell behind in the first game 12-22 before Emery rallied with Frankie Komar serving to cut it to 17-22. Emery then played well in the second game, as the game was nip and tuck all the way. Emery led 7-5, 14-11, 18-17, 20-18 tied at 21 -21, down at 21-22 and then Emery won with Komar serving again as they scored the next four points. Delta won games three and four easily.
Against Salem Hills, Emery lost two heart breakers in games one and four. Game one was close throughout with the score tied at 21-21. Emery led 25-24 before Salem rallied to score the last three points. In game four, the game again was close with Emery leading 24-23 before Salem finished it off.
In game two, the score tied at 19-19, Salem Hills led 21-22 and then Emery rallied with Komar serving to score the last four points. Emery won 25-22. In game three, Emery led 11-10 when ShiAnne Allred began her serves and led 23-11 when she stopped. Komar then served the last two Emery points as Emery won 25-14.
In the fifth game, Komar started off serving and Emery led 3-0. After Salem Hills scored a point, Sierra Bridgewater served for the Spartans and Emery scored the next eight points to lead 11-1. Emery would win the game 15-7 to pick up their second region win of the season. Against Salem Hills, Emery had 33 kills. “That’s really good,” said coach Bell.
Emery is at Carbon Tuesday night in the only game of the week.
