Elmo Horse and Buggy Days
July 24, ATV ride 6 p.m. with registration just before. July 26, breakfast and flag ceremony, 7:30-9 a.m.; parade, 10 a.m.; program, Family Duel, 10:30 a.m., bottle rocket competition, horseshooes, kids games, Guitar Hero or Rock Band competition, and softball games for the entire family; dinner, 5:30 p.m.; bike ride, 6:30 p.m.; family dance, 8 p.m.; and fireworks at dusk. There will be concessions to support the Sterling Scholars from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For the bottle rocket competiton, you will need an empty two liter bottle.
Non-denominational Bible Talks
Non-denominational Bible talks will be held at the Golden Rule Mission 178 Main Street, Helper, upstairs at the back of the thrift store. Miss Peach Days Contestants
All residents of Clawson, Ferron and Emery between the ages of 3-12 who wish to participate in the Miss Peach Days pageant are asked to pick up an entry form at Ferron City Hall. Emery County’s Longest Line Dance
Come and join the Cleveland Days “Good Times” line dance. Line Dancers young and old are welcome to dance at 9 p.m. in Cleveland on 100 South near the Elementary school. If you would like to learn the dance, practice will be at approximately 8 p.m. at the Main Street Pavilion in Cleveland after the Lamb fry. Any questions, call the Town Hall 653-2310. For “Young” and “Antique” at the Cleveland Days Celebration
Starting July 15 and ending on July 19. The Big Day July 19 starts with breakfast, parade, races, games at the Park. The Dance featuring “The Party of Five” starts at 8:30 p.m. and Fireworks at usk at the school grounds. Don’t miss the special tribute to the fallen miners and their families. Local $10,000 Breast Cancer Grant Could Go Unclaimed, Utah women asked to share stories in July
A local company is offering a $10,000 grant to help a family pay for the treatment costs and medical bills associated with breast cancer. However, now just weeks from the entry deadline, there are concerns the sponsorship will go unclaimed if more personal stories from Utah women are not received. To become eligible for sponsorship, women affected by breast cancer have been asked to share their personal breast cancer stories online before Aug.1. The company’s website, www.ithinkpink.org, has received thousands of visitors but very few nominations have come from within the state.

Canyon View Junior High Registration Schedule
Student schedules for the 2008-09 school year at Canyon View Junior High School have been prepared, and it will soon be time for students and their parents/guardians to come to school to complete the process. Ninth grade: Aug. 5, 9 a.m.-noon; eighth grade: Aug. 5, 1-4 p.m.; and seventh grade: Aug. 6, 8:30 a.m. to noon. For families registering more than one student at Canyon View, registration may be completed in one visit. Choose the most convenient time listed above. During the seventh grade registration, two orientation programs will be held in the media center. The first will be at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m. If you are registering a seventh grader, please plan on attending one of these sessions. Valuable information will be provided which will help our seventh graders make the transition to junior high school.

Weather Volunteers Wanted
On July 1, Utahns will begin to join a nationwide community-based network of volunteers in over 30 states, who collect daily precipitation measurements to help improve the quality of maps, records and predictions of rain, hail and snowfall. The name of this volunteer program is Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS). Emery County Photographers Wanted
Emery County photographers are wanted for the Emery County Fair. The theme for the display wall is Economic Role in the San Rafael, Mining, Ranching, Tourism, Oil Exploration, Historic Trails, Outlaw Trails, ect. Other roles could be camping, scenic views, ancient Indian writings. Photographs for display and judging will be submitted on July 29 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Photographs will be judged on July 30 and open to public viewing on Aug. 1 and 2. Utah Cattle Women Association Beef Cook-off
The Utah Cattle Women Association and the Utah Beef Council will partner with the Utah State Fair to sponsor a beef cook-off Sept. 13. The theme is Beef For All Seasons. Two recipe categories: Anytime, Anywhere Beef dishes and Cooking With Kids. Three contestants and one alternate will be selected for each category. The Cooking With Kids category must consist of one chile between the agest of 8-12 and the child’s parent or guardian. Cash prizes will be awarded. Submit recipes until July 31. Emery Town Most Improved Yard Contest
Emery Town is sponsoring a Most Improved Yard contest for all Emery Town residents. Submit your before and after pictures to the town office by July 14. The winner will be announced at the Pioneer Day celebration on July 19.

Emery Town is updating the Veteran’s Memorial in the Emery Town Park. Call the Emery Town office at 286-2417 before Aug. 30 if you know of any Veterans who need to be added, deleted or changed,. The update is expected to be completed by Veteran’s Day.
Miss Emery
If you are a girl between ages 17-24, this includes girls who are juniors now or seniors and college age girls. This is a scholarship pageant and the winner receives a new computer and a $1,000 scholarship, first runner-up $700 scholarship and second attendant, $500. Pageant will be on July 19 at Emery High auditorium. Little Miss Emery
Contestants for the Little Miss Emery pageant are needed. Girls who will be 5-8 years old by July 1, 2009 are eligible. The winner will accompany the 2009 Miss Emery to the Miss Utah pageant. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
