Zions bank celebrates 135 years by granting more than 135 community service wishes

The public is welcome to join in celebrating Zions Bank’s 135 year anniversary by enjoying complimentary birthday cake at the bank’s 135-plus branch locations throughout Utah and Idaho on July 18.
As part of its 135 year birthday celebration, Zions Bank is also granting more than 135 service-oriented “wishes” in their communities. Community members are encouraged to nominate a local service project that employees at each branch location can perform to benefit a worthy cause.
Project possibilities range from donation drives to car washes, from playground cleanup to tree planting, or volunteering for children’s programs, offering activities for the elderly, or sharing financial literacy. Through Aug. 8, service wish nomination forms will be available at all Zions Bank branch locations.
Priority consideration will be given to wish requests that support endeavors that immediately benefit communities in which Zions Bank has a presence, benefit low-income and underserved populations, support individuals or groups that have demonstrated the ability to overcome obstacles, and that emphasize collaboration between organizations, groups and businesses in communities.
Zions Bank’s regional review panels will evaluate wish requests. Community service projects will be provided by branch employees Aug. 29 through Oct. 1.
In July of 1873, a group of the leading citizens of the Salt Lake Valley met to consider organizing a savings bank. The records of that meeting show that it was suggested that the new bank be named Zion’s Savings Bank and Trust Company – a suggestion that was unanimously adopted.
The bank was incorporated on July 6, 1873, under the laws of the Utah Territory. Doors for business opened a few months later, on Oct. 1.
