HELPER-“Lefty” Louie C. Slavensky, 90 died Feb. 5, 2009 in Price, Utah. Lefty was born in Castle Gate, Utah to John and Mary Slavensky on Jan. 30, 1919. He married Elaine Julander Christensen in Las Vegas, Nev. on Aug.1, 1947. She died April 10, 1977. Lefty then married Daisy L. Franco on July 16, 1977 in Wendover, Nev.
Lefty was raised in Helper, Utah and lived all of his life in Carbon County, Utah except while he was in the service during WWII. He was an avid softball player with a wicked left arm pitch, which earned him the nickname of “Lefty”. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served on the North African Front of the war until Nov. 29, 1945.
He was a member of UMWA.
Lefty was an avid bowler and known as one of the best in Carbon County. He was a fierce competitor and loved the game, the people he bowled with, and those he bowled against. Lefty and Daisy are well known as a bowling couple that loved the game and each other.
Lefty was a hard worker and was often found working in his yard and garden.
Lefty is survived by his wife Daisy, three stepchildren- Elna (Jack) Blackham, Ramond (Pam) Franco, Judy (Jesse) Ford, and numerous grand and great-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Elaine. He was also the last surviving member of his family of five brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery, Helper, Utah. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
