HELPER-Thomas Reid Richards, age 89, passed away Jan. 28, 2009 at Castleview Hospital in Price while surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 28, 1919 in Huntington, Utah to Herbert and Amelia Chidester Richards.
Married his sweetheart Rosa Bertoglio, Nov. 30, 1940 in Helper, Utah, she passed away on Aug. 21, 2006.
Reid honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He retired as an Engineer from D & R.G.W. Railroad where he worked for 30 plus years. Reid loved working with his hands and he spent countless hours tinkering in his shop. He enjoyed keeping busy and his fondest memories were those he shared while camping with his family.
Reid will be dearly missed by his family and once again reunited with his loving wife.
Survived by two sons and one daughter, Thomas Reid Richards Jr., Price, Barbara (Sam) Barnum, Bob Richards, both of Helper; five grandchildren, Ken Pilling, Laura Blackburn, Thomas Richards, Carolyn Ray, Sundin Richards; and 13 wonderful grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Peggy Jean; three brothers and one sister.
Graveside service, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, 2 p.m., Mt. View Cemetery in Helper. Family was at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday from 12:40-1:40 p.m.
