The Municipal Building Authority of Emery County discussed the industrial building and its proposed sale. At the last meeting the bids were opened and one was chosen, with the condition that the present tenant will move out as soon as possible. Commissioner Jeff Horrocks said he has talked with the county attorney, who is watching the progress of the building, and he said the present tenants have not moved out.
“They are cleaning up the grounds somewhat, and I understand the work on the inside of the building has progressed even further,” said Horrocks. “What we need today is to ratify the sale of the building to the high bidder, Mac’s Mining, and proceed with the sale.” The MBA approved to ratify the sale to Mac’s Mining for $32,000 and they will take occupancy when the present tenant has completely moved out.
Mike McCandless said he has toured the facility and the present tenants have made significant progress with the clean up of the building. “They are waiting for a scrap company to come clean up the scrap iron in the yard before they begin work on the outside. I will check several times each week and report the progress to you,” said McCandless.
Commissioner Gary Kofford reported the buildings at the airport improvement project are up and complete. “The work is being done now on the office, and some sheet-rocking. Next week the power will be into the buildings. One thing that is on hold is the asphalt work. That cannot be done until the weather breaks,” said Kofford.
Kofford also reported the progress of the work on the Children’s Justice Center. He said the building is closed in now, and for the remainder of the winter months, the crews will be working inside doing sheetrock and taping work. The utilities have been installed and turned on. Kofford said the target date for completion is the end of school this spring.
Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth reported the renovation project at Emery Care and Rehab has been scaled back due to increased construction costs. “At the board’s last meeting, the decision was made to proceed with the architect on the plans for a new kitchen and laundry facility. They will have everything in place to go to the Community Impact Board to request funding in May. They decided to forego the assisted living portion of the project, but will probably remodel the offices and reception center, and will do some roof repair work,” said Pitchforth.
Commissioner Horrocks stated the new building for the food bank was put on hold last year due to lack of financing. Commissioner Kofford said an architect needs to be brought into the project and decisions need to be made before the project can proceed.
The architect must be on board and plans drawn up before funding can be sought.
The MBA meets on the second Tuesday each month at 2 p.m. in the commission chambers.
