PRICE-Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Dorothy V. Hammond Rachiele, age 79, returned to Our Heavenly Father on May 11, 2009 after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Dorothy was born in Newburg, Ore. on Oct. 29, 1929 to Sarah Ann Thompson and Bertram F. Hammond. She was the youngest of seven children.
On Oct. 19, 1946 she married the love of her life, Guido Rachiele. Together they were blessed with 62 years of marriage.
Dorothy had many passions, interests and talents. She met Guido while working at the American Candy Store in Helper. She also worked several years as a bank teller for Walker Bank.
She lovingly cared for and protected a countless number of animals throughout her life, especially her cats. Dorothy took pride in the fact she was a devout vegetarian. She was an excellent cook, a talented oil painter, gardener and poet.
Dorothy enjoyed time spent with friends and family playing the “slots” in Wendover and rolling the dice at Bunco.
She never missed watching her daytime soaps or the Utah Jazz. Dorothy also spent several years as a dedicated bowler. As she showed us everyday, the most important thing in her life was the love for her family.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband Guido; her five children, Michael (Larene) Rachiele, Karyn (Kent) Gilbert, Sarena Shorts, Terry (Georgette) Rachiele and Rocky (Shaunna) Rachiele, former son-in-law Doug Shorts, former daughters-in-law Michelle Chaparro, and Valrie, 19 grandchildren, Kelli, Rylan, Andrea, Victor, Tarena, Deidre, Krista, Loni, Jason, Shauntel, Luke, Crystal, Priscilla, Anthony, Samantha, Jacob, Christy, Heidi, Michael and “adopted” granddaughter Anna; 43 great-grandchildren, several others that called her grandma, all of her Hammond and Rachiele in-laws, her life long friends Jean, Sandy and Pam and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Jim, Floyd, Charlie and Joe Hammond; two sisters, Maude Haycock and Elsie Johnson; former son-in-law, Ray “Sonny” Turner; former daughter-in-law, Alene Rachiele; and grandson-in-law Zeph Knighton.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 15, 2009 at Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
