The Spardettes had a great competition season this year. It started in December with an invitational meet at Delta High School. Here the team placed 2nd in Military, 4th in Dance, 3rd in Prop and 3rd overall. The Spardettes went to an invitational at Jordan High School in December also and placed 1st in Lyrical and 1st in Prop. The girls had their last Invitational Meet at Utah Valley University where they placed 3rd in Military, 3rd in Dance, 1st in Prop and 3rd overall.
Once the invitational meets finished, the girls prepared for their Region Competition. This was held at Salem Hills High School. The girls did a fantastic job. They placed 3rd in Military, 2nd in Dance and 1st in their prop routine. This placed them in 2nd place overall. Delta finished 1st and North Sanpete finished 3rd. Salem Hills and Juan Diego also qualified for the state tournament. McCall Spears also placed 3rd in drill downs.
State proved to be tough competition. The girls placed 10th overall, but did an awesome job with all three competition routines. Drill Team is a hard sport because it is so subjective. They work from June until January getting ready for these competitions and it all boils down to five judges opinions. You have a different day with different judges, it will be a different outcome. Shelby Huntington and Krystal Richardson were recognized for making the drill team All-State team. Two cash scholarships were awarded to two girls in the 3A drill team classification, one of which was Emery’s very own Shelby Huntington. Congratulations to her.
This has been a great year and an awesome team. You put this many girls together working for as many hours as they do and you will always get some contention. However, this group has proven that to be wrong. They have sweat hours and endured much criticism and they do it with such great attitudes and love towards their teammates. It has been a year of much success. I have enjoyed working with these girls.
The Spardettes will have their Spring Show on March 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the Spartan Center. Here the girls will perform all of their routines they have done throughout the year. The drill team would like to thank all those who have come out and supported them throughout this year. Tryouts for next year’s team is tentatively scheduled for April 6, 7 and 8.
