Rosa “E” Douglass, 87, long time resident of Douglas, Ariz., passed away Nov. 13, 2009 at the Beehive Home in Price, Utah, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Rosa was born July 11, 1922 in Jecori, Sonora, Mexico to Manuel and Guadalupe Reyes Escarcega. She became a US citizen at the age of 21 and was a veteran of the Korean War as a WAVE in the US Navy. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and attended services at the San Rafael Mission in Huntingon, Utah, and also the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Price, but always considered the small Pirtleville, Ariz., Catholic Church her home parish. She was a Lady Shriner at the Sabbar Temple of Tucson, Ariz. She worked as a translator between doctors and Spanish speaking parents and children being helped by the Shriner’s in Arizona and Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Juanita, Maria Jesus, and Josefa, and brothers Nell and Cruz Escarcega and her husband of 53 years Ora Dale “Poppo” Douglass. She will be greatly missed by her loving children; Rosa-Maria (Don) Hyink of Miami, Fla., Michael Dale (Gwen) Douglass of Lyman, Wyo., Monica Ann (Reed) Cook of Huntington, Utah, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren all of Wyoming. She will always be loved by them as their “Nana”. Also surviving is a sister Guadalupe Rubio of Antioch, Calif., a brother-in-law William “Billy” (Ellie) Douglass of Afton, Okla., sister-in-law Enriqueta Escarcega, and special loved ones “Esta” and Coyo Cota, Cecilia (Nano) Salazar all of Douglas, Ariz.
A vigil service will be held Wed. Nov. 18, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Beehive Home 1025 W. 470 N. in Price, Utah (behind Castleview Hospital) officiated by Father Hope of Notre Dame Catholic Church. Burial will be in Lyman, Wyo., with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #36. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in her memory. Her arrangements are under the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Huntington, Utah.
