Jessie Williams
PRICE – Our beloved Jessie Oviatt Williams, 93, passed away at her home in Price with the love of her family at her side on Sept. 30, 2002.
She was born in Cleveland to George T. and Yergena Nielsen Oviatt. She married Robert H. Williams in Price March 20, 1930. He passed away June 9, 1964.
Jessie grew up in Elmo and moved to Price in 1925, also living in the coal camps of Sweets and Standardville before settling in Price in 1941. But she always considered Elmo her home.
Jessie was very active throughout her life making many beautiful crocheted pieces, quilts and unique items involving rocks, shells and glass. She enjoyed genealogy and was active in the LDS Church for many years. She was a member of the Price 5th LDS Ward.
Survivors include her children, James D. Williams, Price; Boyd (Rosemary) Williams, Price; granddaughters, Leslie (Eddie) Roye, Price; Linda (Scott) Green, Farmington; great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Vance Rory and Travis Green; brother, George Travis Oviatt II, Joplin, Mo. She was preceded in death by parents; husband; infant son, Peter Williams; six brothers and five sisters; and great-grandson, Harley Green. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
A visitation was Thursday, Oct. 3, at Fausett Mortuary in Price. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 4, at the LDS Chapel located at 545 E. 400 North, Price. Interment followed in the Price City Cemetery.
John O’Berto
WELLINGTON – Our loving husband, father and grandfather, John O’Berto, age 68, passed away Sept. 30, 2002 at the University of Utah Hospital.
He was born Jan. 19, 1934 in Helper to Tony and Martha Mar-chello O’Berto. Married Evelyn Varellas, later divorced. Married Janet Ericson Allred Aug. 17, 1984 in Huntington. Marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in September 1994.
Member of the LDS Church, where he was the high priest councilor in the Wellington 2nd Ward.
Lifelong resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School in 1952. Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
John worked as a produce manager at Safeway, Farmer Jacks and Stewart’s for 23 years. He also worked at Castleview Hospital in the operating room for five years and was co-owner and operator of J&J Cafe in Wellington since 1990.
John was an avid outdoors-man and he had a special love for fishing. He will be dearly missed by family and many dear friends.
Survived by his wife, Janet O’Berto, Wellington; brother, Tony and Lorna O’Berto, Helper; three sons and one daughter, Gary O’Berto, Nashville, Tenn.; Jackie and Scott VanRooy, Christiana, Tenn.; Brad Allred, Chad and Laura Lea Allred, both of Wellington; five grandchildren, Cylon Nielson, Ashley VanRooy, Garron Nielson, Shayann Allred, Abagail VanRooy. Preceded in death by parents and two sisters.
Funeral service was held on Oct. 5, Wellington LDS Stake Center. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Rose Bruno
HELPER – Rose Verant Bruno, age 88, passed away Oct. 6, 2002 in Price.
She was born May 19, 1914 in Murray to Frank and Anna Yancher Verant. Married Adolph L. Bruno Aug. 5, 1937 in Price.
Member of the Catholic Church. Member SNPJ Lodge 689 for 73 years.
Rose was a longtime resident of Helper, where she and her husband owned and operated Bruno Appliance shop.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many dear friends.
Survived by husband, Adolph Bruno, Helper; son, Maurice (Ramona) Bruno, Newbury Park, Calif.; daughter, Joyce (Harold) Cunningham, Price; and sister, Florence Eaquinta, California. Preceded in death by parents and one daughter, Arlene Lois.
Funeral Mass Thursday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery in Helper.
Peggy Bishop
PRICE – Peggy Ruth Harper Day Johnson Bishop passed away Oct. 5, 2002 at Castleview Hospital after complications of extended illnesses.
She was born Sept. 5, 1936 in Moorehouse, Mo., to Lynn and Hazel Ferry Harper. Married Jerry O. Day Sr. in 1953. To this union, two children were born, Roxie Ann and Jerry Orson. They later divorced. Peggy married Frederick C. Johnson Jr. in 1959. He preceded her in death in 1984. In 1985, she married Bob D. Bishop and gained six stepchildren.
Peggy (Nammi, Kizzy, Rootie) had as many personalities as she had nicknames. She lightened up the room the moment she entered and was always the “life of the party.” She could tell jokes and stories like no other and her flair for dress is infamous.
Peggy never met a stranger and was willing to help whenever anyone asked. Being a free spirit, she had an understanding and acceptance for everyone and had many, many good friends.
Peggy loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and soul. Her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews were all very special to her as she is to them.
If Peg loved you, you felt it; if she didn’t, you knew it. Peg is at peace now, but she will be greatly missed. She will always live on in our hearts and memories.
Peggy is survived by husband, Bob, Price; children, Roxie (Glen) Arthur, Moab; Jerry (Cindy) O. Day Jr.; stepchildren, Greg L. and Jeff Bishop, both of Price; Nanette Richardson, Payson; Shelly Bishop, Murray; Kelly Brunette, Kearns; Barbara Goete, Sandy; siblings, Lynn Harper, Betty Nielson and Juanita Robinson; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen Sadler and Lu Dablemont; granddaughter, Molly; and precious husband, Fred C. Johnson Jr.
Funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 9, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Charles Jensen
HUNTINGTON – Charles LaVern Jensen, age 59, passed away Oct. 1, 2002 at home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1943 in Denver, Colo. to Walter K. and Tessie Alma Lee Knott Jensen. He married Velma Joy Kummer June 6, 1968 in Canyonville, Ore.
He loved to spoil his grandchildren rotten.
He enjoyed caring for his garden (where weeds feared to tread) and was the life of every party.
He always harbored a deep and abiding love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing or just passing the time with his family. His heart was always open to his family and anyone else who needed love and attention.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a combat engineer. As a member of the UMWA, he worked as an electrician, mechanic and face boss.
Charlie is survived by wife, Velma, Huntington; children, Christie and Wayne Maxfield, Castle Dale; Charles L. Jensen Jr., Salt Lake City; Tessie Lee Jensen, Price; Tami Lynn Lett and Collette Back, both of Salt Lake City; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; mother, Tessie A. Jensen, Lawrence; brother, Donald A. Jensen, Castle Dale; three sisters, Lorraine Tucker, Evelyn Nailon and Marrian Guhlke; and half-brother, Perry McArthur. Preceded in death by father, six brothers and one sister.
Charlie’s love, kindness and quick wit will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Huntington 1st/5th LDS Ward Chapel. Burial, Huntington Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Jerry Nielsen
PRICE/SALT LAKE CITY – Jerry Lynn Nielsen, age 55, passed away Oct. 4, 2002 at his home in Salt Lake City.
He was born Jan. 14, 1947 in Price to William J.L. and Hazel Beddoes Nielsen.
Jerry attended Carbon High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1964, serving aboard the USS Enterprise.
Survived by brother, William (Marilyn) Nielsen, Scofield; sister, Joan (Gerald) Cool, Palisade, Colo.; sister-in-law, Pat Nielsen, Sunnyside; several nieces and nephews; special friend and employer, George Irwin and family, as well as co-workers. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Dean and Rulon Nielsen; and sister, Alene Kirkwood.
Graveside service Thursday, Oct. 10, 1 p.m., Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road, Riverton, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
