PRICE/ELMO-Douglas Joseph Pitts Sr., age 85, passed away Jan. 4, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 15, 1923 in Myton, Utah to Doris Robinson and Charles Leonard Pitts. Married Venice Guadagnoli, Sept. 27, 1942 in Price, Utah, later divorced.
Douglas was a decorated veteran who served in Germany, France, Rhineland and Central Europe in World War II. He received two Purple Hearts, the Victory Medal, American Theater of Operations Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
He was involved in many community activities including Knights of Columbus, Exalted Ruler Elks Lodge #1550 from 1971-1972, Director of Notre Dame Men’s Club and coached pony and little leagues.
He was employed by Geneva Steel, Mountain States Machinery and Brown and Root Inc.
Survived by his children, Sherri (Richard) Regis, Karen Shingleton, Douglas Pitts Jr., Monica (Rolland) Burgess; brother, Lowell (Edith) Pitts; sisters, June Houston and Lena (Nick) Davis; grandchildren, Shawna (Rodney) Pierce, Tony Regis, Lisa Regis, Arica (Blake) Draper, Kalisa (Tim) Fish, Shane (Heidi) Pitts, Jennifer (Tony) Hale, Sean (Rosie) Burgess, Ashley Burgess (Thad Curtis), 19 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; also survived by loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by mother Doris Barney, father Charles Leonard Pitts, brother Merle (Jack) Pitts, sister May Pitts, in-laws Antonio Guadagnoli and Amelia Guadagnoli.
Funeral Mass Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, 12 noon, Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church.
Vigil Service Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, Price. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service Price City Cemetery.
