The Cleveland Town Fall Burn Season is from October 3, to November 1, 2009.
Permits are available at the Town Office, 100 W. Main, Cleveland. Everyone must obtain a permit prior to burning. There are no fees for a burn permit. 2009 FERRON SCARECROW CONTEST
PARTICIPANTS MUST PRE-REGISTER at City Hall Display locations will be assigned at time of registration. The contest is open to individuals, businesses, organizations, and clubs. There is no fee to enter. Hand-deliver your entry form to The Ferron City Hall or use the night drop.
Entries must be received by Oct.14.
Scarecrows may go up anytime between Oct. 1-15.
The scarecrow contest is family friendly. Scarecrows should be whimsical, humorous, or loveable and NOT frightening.
Judging is Nov. 9-10th. Winners will be announced Nov. 11th.

Hunters Education Course
A hunter education course will be held Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 7 &, 2009 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Class will be from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. each day. Fee for class is $10. You MUST pre-register by Sept. 28. Sign up early, there is a class size limit.
Participants will be required to obtain a voucher at a licensed vendor for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources prior to registering for the class.

The Emery County Landfill is requesting that these items not be placed in the dumpsters that are used for the spring and fall clean-ups; tires, batteries, oil, no liquid of any type such as paint, turpentine, etc., pesticides, cement, and refrigerators.
A person can be fined up $12,000 from the State of Utah for mixing these appliances in with regular refuse because of the freon.

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier
Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
