Last week, the Emery High Lady Spartans lost two region volleyball contests as they continue struggling to put a complete game together. Emery was never really in the North Sanpete game as they lost quickly in three matches 25-14, 25-10 and 25-8. It was a different story against Juab but the end result was the same.
Against Juab, Emery got off to a very quick start as they played with confidence and executed properly. It appeared at the beginning that the other Spartan team had shown up and that victory was at hand but alas, it was not to be. Emery won the first two matches 25-20 and 25-18 to take a commanding lead in the best of three series.
In the third match, Emery reverted back to the other team and lost the match 25-16. Emery never recovered and lost the next match 25-21 and the final 15-9 to let a golden opportunity slip away.
Coach Kris Bell spoke about the game, “Against Juab, we came out and looked really good after that bad loss to North Sanpete. After winning the first two and looking good, we gave away the third match and then looked awful in the final game. We needed to have stayed focused and not have allowed ourselves to get distracted with our mistakes.”
Coach Bell believes that the school has a good team with good players but sometimes they allow themselves to forget the basics of the game. “We will work on our passing, we will work on a our serving, we will work on our basics this week at practice. We can be successful if we but do the fundamentals.”
Emery hosts Richfield this Tuesday night and then will travel to Manti this Thursday night as they try to grab their first region victory of the season. Good luck Lady Spartans.
