Emery Golf

By GARY ARRINGTON Sports writer

The Emery High golf team closed the gap on their cumulative score for the season at the match at Juab last week. With a fifth place finish, Emery is now only one point behind the Hawks for the season.
Juab is by far the favorite for the 2009 region team title as they boast the best three golfers in the region. Their top three golfers shot 71, 74 and 77 in the match. Their next three golfers were in the low hundreds though.
After Juab came Richfield, Delta, Manti, Emery and North Sanpete. Emery defeated the Hawks by six strokes and lost to Manti by 13 strokes. Emery is capable of moving up in the region standings as they continue to improve.
Assistant coach Neal Peacock talked about the team, “Emery is still capable of improving as a team and in our scoring. Each golfer can probably improve their play by 5-10 strokes.”
Scoring in this region meet were Quinn Montgomery with an 89, Mark Guymon with a 90, Gage Bell with a 94 and Brady Jensen with a 97.
These four golfers plus Andrew Terry and Brian Langston are the starters each week for the Spartans.
This Thursday, Emery golfs at Palisades Golf Course as Manti hosts the region. Emery then will play at Richfield in a Wednesday meet on Sept. 16. That meet will start at 11 a.m. Emery finally will host the region on Sept. 24 at Millsite.
