The Emery High swim team is new this school year, and as most new teams, is getting better as the season progresses. Last week Emery hosted Richfield and the Wildcats came out on top 233 to 83.
Besides Emery having a new team, the team is competing in a new facility, the Emery County Aquatic Center. Although we might just call it the swimming pool, the Emery County Aquatic Center was recently lauded by the Utah chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The Emery County Aquatic Center, along with the Weber County Library and the Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building at the University of Utah were all given Honor awards at the competition. The competition had more than 50 entries from throughout the state. The judges were architects from Mississippi, Louisiana and California.
The Emery County pool’s architect was the Salt Lake City firm of Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects. The jury said of the Emery building, “The crisp, pure elements of the building form a remarkable partner for the outdoor pool and its colorful play structures, both from a distance and from within the spaces.”
While Emery does not have the number of participants that other established programs have, the swimmers on the Emery team are constantly bettering their times and are becoming more competitive as a team and as individuals.
In the girls 200-yard medley relay race Emery took second and third. Swimming for Emery were Ashlin Daley, Marqui Moss, Brinne Dawes and Mia Doria. Swimming on the third place team were Ariel Halton, Nikki Rogers, Hailey Rogers and Cammie Boyce.
The Emery boy’s team took second in the 200-yard medley. The team has Weston Allinson, Eli Oliverson, Colton Leavitt and Tyrell Clement on it.
Davi Bosshardt finished second in the girls 200-yard IM, only two seconds behind the winner. Weston Allinson was the first finisher in the boys 200-yard IM but was disqualified for failing to touch properly. In the girls 50-yard freestyle, Mia Doria finished third and Hailey Rogers finished fourth.
