ELMO-Roy E. Johansen age 84, passed away in Price, Utah on Dec. 8, 2009. He was born to Charlie A. and Sophia Ann Timothy Johansen on Oct. 22, 1925 in Elmo, Utah. Roy was married to Velma Childs for more than 25 years.
Roy worked as a coal miner and retired at Hiawatha and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He enjoyed farming and ranching with his cows and later his sheep, and driving his Kawasaki “Mule”.
Roy liked to work with leather braiding and building hackamores. He especially loved spending time with his family playing cards and dominos. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren; K.C., Jessica, Shaney, Tandie, Jake, Lacey, Dane, Jay, Ashley, Kade, Braxton, Jacie, Colton, and Eric and great-grandchildren; Gavin, Cadence, Chad, Anndie, Beritt, Wiley, Haiden, Jaxten, and ShiAnne. He loved them dearly and had nicknames for them all.
Happy Trails “Get on your boots, spurs, chaps, grab your jug, smokes and chew, get your dog and get on your horse, herd those cows.” We love you Dad.
He is survived by his children; Chris Johansen, Nita (Marvin) Thayn, Tina (Vern) Lyons, and Jenni (Bill) Fasselin all of Elmo, Utah, 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and baby sister Leah Nielen of St. George, Utah.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jeff Johansen, and brothers, Max (Faye), Lloyd (Leora), Merwin, Tom, Ruel, Glendon (Bonnie), and sister; Eunice Chatwin.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Elmo Town Hall. Graveside services followed at 12 p.m. at the Elmo Town Cemetery. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Friends and family may sign the guestbook and share memories of Roy at www.fausettmortuary.com.
