"Green River soccer players seem to have a great time running up and down the field."

For the months of October and November, the Green River Community Center provided an opportunity for children, age 4-12, to play soccer. They played through an organization called AYSO, American Youth Soccer Organization headed up by Regional Commissioner, Amber Kaspar. With the help of Justin Queen, VISTA for Green River, they had by the end of the season over 65 kids playing every Tuesday after school. There were three age groups that participated this fall. In those age groups there were two teams in the 4-6 year old age group, three teams for the 7-9 year old age group, and two teams for the 10-12 year old age group.
The program produced over 35 different volunteers and many donations were handed out as well. It could not have been as successful as it was if it weren’t for the volunteers. The city of Green River provided two fields to play on and a concession stand to provide snacks and drinks for the players and their families.
The week after the season had ended all players and their families were invited to a celebration at the community center. More than 100 people came in and out of the building. As a result of this season being such a success, both Amber and Justin plan to tackle another soccer season this coming spring. It was their first season and sport to run in Green River for their year of service for VISTA. They are truly grateful for all of the volunteers and help that they received this last season.
