an open house was held on May 18 at the almost complete Emery County Childrens Justice Center.
The official grand opening of the CJC will come at a later date as there are still a few things to complete in the building. The open house was held before the end of the school year as a lot of the kids involved in the construction of the building are seniors and CJC personnel wanted to have a chance to thank the students and their teacher Jim Keele before graduation.
Students of Emery High’s construction class, under the direction of Keele have been hard at work on the project since the official ground breaking which took place on Sept. 18, 2008. They constructed the building for only the cost of the building materials.
The Emery County School District donated the land for the center. The Emery County Municipal Building Authority will be the owners of the building which will be leased to the state of Utah for the Children’s Justice Center.
Everyone has been involved in support of the center. Castle Dale City waived all water connection fees and associated costs for the center.
Shelley Wright, CJC director and Kizzy Ellington who has been in charge of over seeing the project presented Keele with a plaque and each of the students received a certificate of appreciation for the beautiful job they did on the building. The students are: Roger Boyer, Morgan Burr, Dustin Healy, Jennie Miller, Ryan Smith, Adam Frisbie, Donna Hunter, Mathew Brinkworth, Hayden Barney, Jacob Boel, Skylar Carpenter, Shane Cox, Ryan Downard, CJ Gardiner, Aarow Hefner, Dalton Judd, Burl Kinoshita, Scott, Larsen, Ian MacDonald, William Mangum, Colten Miller, Christopher Sanchez, Nicole Smith, and Scott Larsen.
