FERRON-Orlon Kay Mortensen, 92, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 5, 2009 in Price, Utah surrounded by his family. Orlon was born Aug. 4, 1916 in Elmo, Utah one of 11 children born to Hans Frederick and Ida Olive Knight Mortensen.
Orlon grew up and attended school in Elmo, and learned the value of hard work at a young age. He married Geneal Funk Mortensen on June 1, 1939 in the Manti LDS Temple. She passed away on June 27, 2001.
Orlon worked in the CCC during the depression and was fondly known to friends as “Okie Doke the G.I. Driver”. He worked on farms in Idaho in his early married life; he later worked as a plumber, electrician, lineman, mechanic and could fix anything for neighbors and friends and family.
Orlon, always a faithful servant, he loved Family History and worked diligently in the LDS Family Indexing Program. Orlon loved music and left a legacy of family favorites that will be cherished for generations to come. He took pride in his family and attended every possible family event. His memory will linger in the hearts of all whose lives he has touched for good. Til we meet again, we love you.
Orlon is survived by his children: Stephen (Kathy) Mortensen of Pilot Hill, Calif., Wayne (Linda) Mortensen of Orem, Utah, Roger (Polly) Mortensen of Orem, Utah, Keith (Chris) Mortensen of Placerville, Calif,, LaRee (Tony) Bermudez of Sacramento, Calif., DeeVere Mortensen of Orem, Utah and Geneal (Henry) Coker of Las Vegas, Nev.; 32 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; siblings: Mayzelle (LaVelle) King of Price, Utah and DeVoy (Donna Rue) Mortensen of Centerville, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law: SuEllyn Mortensen, grandson: Nathan Mortensen and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Millsite LDS Ward Chapel, 35 West 200 North, Ferron. A viewing was held on Monday, June 8, 2009 from 6-7 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 720 North Center Street, Castle Dale and on Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 at the Church in Ferron prior to the services. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
