Luminaries


The Relay for Life Luminaries are on sale now. Purchase one to honor a survivor or someone who has lost their fight with cancer. Call 381-2886 or 748-2578 for details. These luminaries are available for a nominal charge.

Huntington DUP


A meeting will be held at the Huntington Senior Center on July 18 at 2 p.m. All those interested in DUP are encouraged to attend.

Huntington City


Huntington City secondary water schedule. There will be no watering from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Even numbered houses and lots will water Monday and Thursday. Odd numbered houses and lots will water Tuesday and Friday. Churches, schools, mobile home parks, cemetery, ball fields and city park will water Wednesday and Saturday. Absolutely no watering on Sunday. Anyone not following the water schedule or wasting water will be subjected to penalties. 1st offense-warning, 2nd offense-citation, 3rd offense-loss of secondary water for the season.

Pool Hours


Castle Dale City swimming pool summer schedule will go as follows.Aquasize: Monday, Wednesday, Friiday: 5:30-6:30 a.m.; Monday-Friday, 7:30-8:30 a.m.; Laps: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 6:30-7:30 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30- 7:30 a.m.; Family Night: Monday 7-9 p.m.; Open Swim: Monday-Saturday, 12- 7 p.m. For more information call the pool at 381-5298. The pool will be closed on July 24.

Ferron Memory Afghan


Old Mill Camp is selling Ferron Memory Afghans. They are selling these afghans to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ferron. They contain historical images as well as current Ferron sites. Call 384-2648 or 384-2902 for more information.

2002 Summer Story Time


The Summer Reading Program will be from 11-11:30 a.m. on the following times and story time subjects at Castle Dale Library. July 16, different and alike; July 23, we’re all winners; and July 30, awards ceremony.
Also, they will have a reading foot race. Each hour that you read or have been read too, put your name on a foot track. Readers Will make tracks all around the library by racing the boys by the girls.
RJ the Clown will be at the story time on July 23 at 11 a.m. She would like everyone to bring a used book which she donates to the children in Castle View Hospital.

Rabbit Show


There will be a Rabbit Show at the Southeastern Utah Jr. Livestock Show on July 12 at 5 p.m. For details contact Dan James 384-3367.

Poultry Show

Co-ed One Pitch Softball Tournament


The 6th Annual Emery County Fair Co-ed One Pitch Softball Tournament will be held on July 12-13. You may register your team at the Emery County Recreation Office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. For more information call 381-2108.

Little Cowboys Rodeo


The Little Cowboys Rodeo will be held on July 13 at the Castle Dale Arena at 7 p.m. There will be junior bull, steer, calf and sheep riding, barrel racing, pole bending, chicken chase and calf ribbon pull. The rodeo is for contestants from age 17 and under. To register call 381-5663.

Carnival at Emery County Fair


There will be a new carnival at the Emery County Fair this year. Advance tickets are available at Carbon Emery Insurance, Emery County Treasurer, Castle Dale City, Orangeville City, Ferron City and Country Corner Store. You will save on over the gate prices. The carnival will run from July 24-27 at Stewarts parking lot.

Pie Baking Contest


Emery Town will be having a pie baking contest as part of their 24th of July celebration. Everyone is welcome to enter and there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for both single and double crust categories. Have your pie at the Emery Church by 2 p.m. on July 24. Driver Safety Program


AARP-55 Alive, Drive Safety Program classes will be held at the Southeastern Utah District Health Department on July 30-31 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (with lunch break). To reserve a spot call 637-3671. This class is designed for drivers age 50 and over and may make you eligible for a multi-year automobile insurance discount.

Utah Shakespearean Festival


The Utah Shakespearean Festival for the summer season of 2003 will be held through Aug. 30 and the fall season from Sept. 18 through Oct. 18. The summer season will include William Shakespeare’s, “Measure for Measure, Much Ado about Nothing, and Richard III”, also the historical musical 1776, Born Yesterday and The Servant of Two masters. The fall season will feature Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors,” the musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors, and the Oscar Wilde comedy, “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

The fair guide for this year are located in the libraries and city halls, the court house and the chamber of commerce.

Relay For Life


The American Cancer Society will holding their annual Relay For Life on July 12 -13 at the Emery High track. These are the following events and times; welcome, 6 p.m.; introduction of survivors, 6:15 p.m.; speakers, 6:30 p.m.; parade of teams, 7 p.m.; entertainment, 7:15 p.m.; luminary ceremony, 9:30 p.m. There will also be a walk under the stars, activities and food. Castle Dale City


The Castle Dale City Council meeting scheduled for July 10 has been rescheduled for July 11 at 7 p.m.

24th of July Celebration


There will be a 24th of July Celebration for Castle Dale and Orangeville residents. It will begin with a flag ceremony at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast at the Stake Center Pavilion in Castle Dale and Orangeville City Park. Marinated BBQ turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be that night at 6 p.m. under the rodeo grounds tent. There will also be live entertainment and fireworks at dusk. There will be a small charge for the breakfast and dinner and remember to bring your own plates.

Support Group


Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge. It will be held on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. There will be on site child care available with prior notice. The course offers self-reliance skills, recourses, skills on setting up a safety net and starting a new life plan. For more information call Jennifer at 381-2827 or Jackie at 637-5542.

The booklet, “A Helping Hand: The Resource Guide for People with Caner, ” is available in its newest version by calling 1-800-813-HOPE or on CancerCare’s website at www.cancercare.org. The guide lists national and regional organizations that offer information; education and support services; programs that provide free medication; and commercial outlets for products. Local resource information can connect you with services such as transportation, financial aid, hospice and home care.

Clinic For Woman


Southeastern Utah District Health Department is offering a clinic for women between the age 40- 64. Get a private check-up by a female provider. Get a pap test and breast exam. Receive a free mammogram voucher. Women must meet age and income guideline to qualify for a free exam and mammogram. For more information call 381-2252.

Reducing Energy Bills


Financial Assistance Network has published a booklet, “How to get up to $25,000 of Government money to help reduce your energy bills.” The booklet gives information on how and where Salt Lake City area homeowners can get government help to reduce their heating and cooling bills. A pocket guide for identifying trees, is available from the National Arbor Day Foundation. The 84-page book guide will help you identify 157 different trees found in the western U.S. To obtain a tree id guide contact The National Arbor Day Foundation.

Advisory Panel Members


The Utah Arts Council is accepting nominations for advisory panelists to serve November 1, 2002 through November 1, 2004. If you wish to nominate yourself or someone else for panel service, write to; Panelist Nominations, Utah Arts Council, 617 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102-1177 by July 22. Please include the name and address, and daytime phone of the nominee. Also include a list of the nominee’s qualifications, i.e., arts expertise/background, occupation, and organizational affiliations. Nominations without a qualifications list cannot be considered.

Emery County Landfill Hours


Business hours for the Emery County Landfill are Tues-Fri., 9 a.m.-5:15 p.m. and on Sat., 8 a.m to 4:15 p.m. Closed on Mondays. For questions call 381-2719.
