During the recent Ferron City Council meeting, Mayor JoAnn Behling responded to a question concerning the improvement project at Millsite Golf Course. “Seeding for the portion of the new nine hole project, especially those holes on the North side of the road should be completed this fall,” said Mayor Behling. “The portion of the project that is on the South side of the road will be completed next spring.”
In other business conducted by the council, Councilman Garrett Hansen informed the council that the new dog ordinance will be ready for presentation to the council by the next meeting. “We need to acquire the funds to build a kennel facility outside of the city shop to house stray animals for short term,” he said. It was mentioned the city should have enough materials already on hand to complete this project.
Councilman Joe Trenery said work is nearing completion on the Bowden Lane curb and gutter project. “We are addressing some of problems now,” he stated.
Councilman Trent Jackson expressed his appreciation and thanks to those who helped during the Peach Days celebration. Along with the Mayor, the remaining council persons also expressed their appreciation. Several issues, such as improvements to the horse races, demolition derby, exhibits, vendors, soap box derby, pet parade, dessert social, talent show and bike ride were noted and discussed. These improvements will be implemented next year. The need for more volunteers to help with setup and cleanup for the celebration is crucial.
Councilman Jackson also stated the beautification committee is planning a scarecrow competition for the fall season. Flyers will be included in the newsletter with the criteria for the competition. He mentioned the appreciation chili dinner will be held Nov. 11 and the winners will be announced at that social.
The entire council discussed the emergency plan for the city. It was decided to wait until the county plan is complete before deciding the direction to be taken for Ferron City.
The next Ferron City Council meeting will be held Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
