PRICE-Maria E. Johnson, 76, was carried to the Savior after a vigorous but brief fight with cancer on Oct. 14, 2009. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Maria was born March 9, 1933 in Truchas, N. M. to Rosinda Leyba and Moises Jaramillo. She married Lewis Flemett in 1953 but they later divorced. Together they had three children. Years later, she married her love, Ross Johnson in November of 1975 and they remained married until his death on Aug. 3, 1984.
Most of her life was full of service to others including working in the field of special education at Ann Self Training Center of Spring Glen and Workforce Services of Carbon County, for the State of Utah where she retired at 62 years of age.
When she was not helping others professionally, her private life was dedicated to help and service of others. She was a devoted member of Trinity Christian Center and unwavering in her faith to Jesus Christ and to the giving of offerings to the Jewish community. Maria also believed in helping underprivileged children and supported numerous charity organizations such as Feed the Children and the Samaritans First program by Franklin Graham. She enjoyed collecting numerous shoeboxes from various family members and friends to send to many different children.
Maria was an adventurer and loved to travel. She was prone to get up at a moment’s notice and take off to exotic places such as Russia, Jerusalem, Turkey and the Catalina Islands. She loved deep sea fishing and fishing for salmon. She frequently traveled to New Mexico and Texas to visit family even into her 70s.
She had a zest for life and loved to be around others if for nothing else just for good conversation, food and fun. She loved to cook and teach others to cook family recipes so that the recipes could be passed from generation to generation. Maria was a talker. Her favorite subject was Jesus and his eternal love. It was her vision and desire that everyone would come to know the true Christ.
Her second greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maria’s favorite activity with her great-grandchildren was spoiling them rotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Moises and Rosinda Jaramillo, brother, Lorenzo Jaramillo, an infant sister, and step-sons Dale and Raymond Johnson.
Maria is survived by her three children, Viviette (Manuel) Samudio, David Flemett, both of Price; Tim (Dottie) Flemett, Spring Glen; sisters, Teresa (Moises) Bazan, Flora Prieto, Connie Jaramillo; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Maria made an impact on everyone she came in contact with and she will be sorely missed by all.
Funeral service, was held Monday Oct. 19, 2009, 11 a.m., Trinity Christian Center, 925 East Main Street in Price. Prayer service was held Sunday 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street. Family was at Mitchell’s Sunday evening at 6 p.m. and at the church Monday one hour prior to service. Interment, Austrian Cemetery, Spring Glen, Utah.
