The new nursing home construction started mid-August and is progressing nicely. The windows are in and the building is enclosed. The work inside the building has started. The contractor is Carter Construction from Orem. The contract is for 270 days of construction. Chairman Gil Conover said, “We would like the building completed by Dec. 31, however the completion date is May.” Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth illustrated the chosen floor and wall coverings for the new addition, she also discussed the exterior and interior paint colors.
A financial report was given by consultant Bryan Erickson CEO of Management Traditions Health Care. The report showed revenue for the year is down, however expenses have also been reduced. The beginning cash/prepaid expense balance 12/31/08 was $383,984.45 and the ending cash/prepaid expense balance is $503,294.10 Aug. 31. The profit and loss statement showed the profit and loss for Aug. 31, 2008 had a loss of $147,694.89. That changed to a loss of $6,935.75 by August 31, 2009. A significant improvement. Accounts receivables changed from $465,326.64 on Aug. 31, 2008 to $305,287.83 as of Aug. 31, 2009. The collection of money for services rendered has improved. We are doing well, according to Erickson. Expenses for the last four years are below what they have previously been. We have increased revenue, Medicare’s rate has increased slightly and we will get some more revenue from that source. Some of the changes we have made have reduced our expenses. The care center has never been a burden to the county and that is our goal to not be a burden to the tax payers of the county for the operation.
Administrators report. Colleen Chauvet the former Administrator has decided to move on to another aspect of her life. Bryan Erickson had a letter from Chauvet that she requested be read to the board. In the letter she reminded the board that they hired her to do a job and then did everything in their power to prevent her from doing that job. She pointed out that the board members would not come and talk with her about situations in the care center, but they would listen to everyone else. In her letter she challenged the integrity and ethics of the board members.
After a lengthy executive session Chairman Gil Conover reported, the board without opposition had decided to appoint an interim administrator.
Three people had applied for the job of administrator. One of those applicants withdrew the application and the other one found a job elsewhere. At this time there is only one candidate.
The board member Caleen Wilcox former owner of Turnquist Retreat resigned her board membership prior to the executive session so that she could be considered for the cdministrator of the care center position. The board then appointed Caleen Wilcox temporary or interim administrator of the care center for the salary of $52,500 effective Oct. 1. This is a six month appointment and Wilcox will be able to re-apply in February. This job will be advertised in February to be filled by March.
Wilcox has a temporary administrator license until she passes her boards to become a licensed nursing home administrator. The board decided that Wilcox would be introduced to the nursing staff the morning of Sept. 30 by Erickson.
