The Emery High golf team hosted the region teams in the final region meet of the season at Millsite Golf Course Sept. 24 and had their best finish of the season. Emery finished in fourth position in the tournament but they were only seven strokes out of first place.
Led by Mark Guymon, who finished fourth overall and Brady Jensen, who finished eighth, Emery shot a score of 367 to finish seven strokes out of the lead. Delta won with a score of 360 followed by Richfield with a score of 363 and Delta with a score of 365. Juab shot a 386 and North Sanpete shot a 404.
Mark Guymon finished the season as the fourth best golfer in region 12. Guymon, along with Brian Langston and Devin Hales, were also named Academic All-Region for region 12. There were six golfers total on the team from the region and the Spartans had three of them.
For the season, Juab won the region title followed by Delta, Richfield, Manti, Emery and North Sanpete. For the season, Emery finished less than 100 strokes out of the lead for the season. When you take all the tournaments the Spartans played in and divide that score by those meets, Emery was only one good golfer out of competing for the championship. Emery’s scores constantly improved during the season, as they got better.
Guymon will now represent Emery at the state golf tournament this week. Schneiter’s Bluff Golf Course in Ogden will host the meet Oct. 7-8.
